About 20 years ago I needed to get rid of a Rowan tree stump so eventually after my failure with saws and axes my mate came round with a jig-a-pick.
He easily spent two hours on a sunny Sunday afternoon trying to jig-a-pick it out until a neighbour came round a bit pee'd off.
He said if you leave it until tomorrow I'll come with my works truck and a big chain - that did the job.

you would probably have laughed at the palaver for the cherry ...i had about 20 foot of rope lashed to a honda accord around various posts and bars just to get different angles on the pull. even after having dug and chopped through most of the roots ...and yes the hole was enormous that was left ..

Drill a hole and pour undiluted glysophate down it.

Glysophate is the main ingredient in majority of weed killers.
