TRESSFX: A NEW FRONTIER OF REALISM IN PC GAMING

I've no idea but new tech is always good. Amd seem to be doing a good job with this stuff lately.

Couldn't agree more, the more they can move games on the better.
Yeah they definetely seem to be on a roll at the minute.

Never thought I would see the day they pushed TWIMTBP to the side IMO, hopefully it's not a flash in the pan and they keep their foot firmly on the pedal.

Different kettle of fish with AMD, they seem to be pushing the IQ up whereas Nvidia seem to have slackened off by putting Nvidia specific code/wrappers into their titles for better performance-not IQ(Roff could explain it better I imagine).

But hopefully this will make Nvidia take notice and start developing the IQ again in a similar manner like they used to do.

Maybe it's not a priority anymore for Nvidia as they are pushing out from the PC and into the mobile scene as the long term market will be worth more to them than high end gpu sales I would imagine.

Benchmark + review measuring TressFX performance. Looks like TressFx is not an option on older AMD hardware.

On the AMD front their claim that the GCN architecture is key to providing a great TressFX experience is certainly true, as the previous generation HD 6970 was totally brought to it's knees with TressFX on.

hmmm just realised something... AMD got beat to the punch (sort of) on TressFX... Eve Online has physics simulated hair and it conforms to the body much nicer than TressFX and animates more realistically tho doesn't have quite the same level of detail but not far off.

The hair effects have exactly the same problem some guy mentioned from the PhysX demo, way too glossy and the movement isn't realistic. Sometimes she'll turn her head pretty slowly and the hair will whip round like she's thrown her head from one direction to the other. It's a start though I suppose.

just realised 5 mins into the game she's hanging upside down and her bangs decide to defy gravity and hang upwards... looks nice though. also apparently it has magnetic repulsion from her shoulders for some reason

they're working on improving tressfx' realism as well as nvidia performance. no mention about the gravity thing, but it's good news nonetheless

Everything maxed including the hair shampoo.

@ Rusty, that video looks a little jerky? Could you do your frame latency times for the bench please?

I bet its completely overdone is it? shampoo ads....

Are they proud of it, did they a bit carried away? its probably why some people feel its unnatural.

Its a start, being pioneers you are putting yourself in the spotlight, opening yourself up to criticism, which is not a bad thing if its constructive.
