I noticed Geil PC3-17000 and was wondering if buying 2 of those would work on any X58 mobo.

They're cheap and seem to offer amazing overclocking headroom.

I understand that using 3x 2gb (6gb total) would work in tri channel, but what about 4x 2gb (8gb total)? Would it still work in tri channel?

According to this, some mobos supports tri channel using 4 sticks of ram.

Is it doable or will 1 stick of ram be useless?

I haven't tried using 4 sticks myself, but according to the manual for my motherboard it is possible to run 4 sticks in tri channel, so I can't see how this wouldn't work.

Yeah, I noticed the same and was wondering about getting 2x of those Geil Rams but some users reported that their bandwidth drops to dual channel configurations when using 4x 2gb.

I'm not sure if it reverts them back to dual channel or they're doing something wrong.
