[SOLVED] Tri-monitor setup

Hi all,

For a birthday treat to myself I plan on buying two Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23" monitors to go alongside my UltraSharp U2311H.

This means for tri-monitor gaming, my effective resolution is 5760x1080.

I currently have a single MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III (which is rattling, but that's for another thread). Do I need an extra graphics card to run tri-monitor? If so what should I buy?

Thanks all.

I would strongly suggest a 4GB 680 or 7970 for future proofing. The downside of the 7970 is if you wish to add another card for xfire, it appears the drivers are so broken, I wouldn't go this way.

That is not to say that in the future it will not be sorted though.

yes, presuming you play some games that need a half decent graphics card, another 6950 will be the way to go. Maybe a 7970 if you have plenty of cash

Try getting the monitors and ordering the graphics card if you think you're going to need it.

Also, Happy birthday :)

I run 2x6990's however just about to sell one of the 6990's, and I'm currently running basically 2x6970's 5760x1080 high/ultra on BF3 quit nicely thank you. Once won't cut it mate... but do have a mate that is considering selling his 6950 as he's the one buying my 6990 lol

Unfortunately I don't have that kind of cash. I'm already spending over £300 on these two new monitors.

Unfortunately OC no longer sell my graphics card (6950 Twin Frozr III), and I really don't have enough cash for a 7970 (or nvidia equivalent).

Also, Happy birthday :)
Thanks haha but it's not until mid June.

Which 6950 model does he have?

Think it is an XFX version 1, the firmware updatable one to a 6970, sure he originally got it from OC... sure it is, will find out... not sure how much these go for or how much he's looking at, will ask tonight if you like.

Well that was quick guys... just saw a B-grade 6950 Twin Frozr II for £150 so I've snapped it up!

Thanks for all the help as usual!

Unfortunately, I bought the 6950 at the same time as someone else (no seriously what're the god damn chances) and fate was against me.

So I'm still open for suggestions guys! I'm struggling to find a 6950/6970 that's economically viable (I don't want to have to replace them both in a year when I'm in the middle of Uni and drowning in student debt).
