Trials bike problem, any users in here

ok my advice as a cycle shop owner ( the cycle centre oxford)

ok bare with me here and dont fee like im undermining you!
first of make sure you get your terminology right as in "Raleigh bb" cos if your gonna go back and argue with the bike shop make sure you know your stuff!!!

so.....
in the old days raleigh used to use 26tpi threads which is typically known as "raleigh bb"
modern day bb uses 24tpi.
so.. IF they have managed to fit "raleigh bb" then they have forcefully threaded the bb in the wrong threads.
now assuming they havent but just fitted a CHEAP raleigh branded 24tpi bb

when we do a job like that we replace like for like so remove sealed bb replace with sealed bb.
while removing a decent mechanic will clean threads in frame of dirt and if necessary run a thread cleaning tool through it to make sure good threads.
difference between 2 bb's are about £15/20.
now looking at the video i can see the bb shell isnt moving but the axel is, i would check the other side of the shell to see if that is moving, the problem with those "raleigh type" bb or otherwise known and cup/cone bb is they inherently come loose.

any decent shop would accept/admit fault and replace with better sealed unit and may charge you the difference (without labour)

i agree with eXist, if they dont admit, proving it was them will be hard but none the less argue till u win.

hope this helps and best of luck

That looks to me as if the left hand adjustable cup has been locked down when not in far enough.

Either that or the drive side end has come loose and is wobbling about.

They fitted a pretty crap BB anyway and I'd never fit it to a trials bike. Shimano UN54 is what we fit to repairs.

Thanks for the advice guys, it's appreciated:)

What I am going to do is order the correct onza BB, at least that way I can compare the threads on both and then if there is a difference I will be back to the shop with both BB and ask them to explain what they are going to do.

Failing that and if it is not the shops fault the only thing I can think of is plastering the new BB shell with JB Weld or similar around the threads and put it in and hope it will hold it firm enough, in my mind it seems like it should fix it but won't know until I try

you could also take the bike to a better shop and have the threads cleaned and possibly re cut if the damage isnt too severe....
