Tricky mechanics problem! The Tarzan problem

if you've done all of that then good going mate, its not something i;d want to do any time soon.

is there no way of simplifying the 'r' terms in the square root?

It's good practice for my upcoming exams, I might as well try it :)

And possibly, I just went for whatever made it a bit shorter to write.

Actually, I think the equation does hold just fine, if theta is equal to alpha then tarzan has stopped moving when he lets go, therefore he just plummets, so the height *is* irrelevant, excellent :D

But the height is relevant to finding the speed using the conservation of energy...
