Trident or Aircraft Carriers or JSF

Peace through strength, Trident is a necessary evil but we also need a Navy that is capable (we are an island) so all 3 are required if we are to stay a power on the world stage. Also I remenber watching a video on discovery a few years ago of a nuclear test.The footage was taken in a small hamlet approx 70 miles away from the explosion, 2 people standing in the street, when the shockwave reached it knocked them of their feet with some force.:eek:

You sound like you want your country to become a banana republic (if you are actually a real Brit). There are only a few countries on Earth who could claim to have contributed as much to civilisation as Britain.

I find it hard that people like you exist who think that if we dissolved our armies, the world would become totally peaceful becuse the big bad West wasn't 'killing children'. You clearly have no understanding of history or how the world works or even how humans work.
 
I entertained the Idea that the US could be the hostile force but decided against thinking about it further as i just don't think its possible, and seeing they will have most of our trident missiles safely stocked for us its a valid reason not to bother buying the upgrades ! ;)

Argentina, fair enough a valid point i forgot about. I'm not sure a nuclear deter ant is going to matter there, though having them carriers might be useful, but i suspect they will be considered too expensive to use in a theatre of war were they could actually be destroyed.

Plus i don't think the Argies will go to war over it, more likely some backhanders will be dealt and the right peoples palms greased. Im pretty sure BP wont be doing the exploration drilling either tee hee

I probably do, but to keep a 2 sided debate rather than join "oh yes im a young man in my 20 early 30s i want big guns yum yum" side.

no Im not nationalistic and relying on the achievements of our forefathers is exactly my case in point... This country has done nothing ( very little) of worth since ww2 and is on the decline.

We punch well above our weight only on previous reputation. :p

i think there needs to be clarification about exactly what this means

Efour said we haven't achieved anything noteworthy which is utter BS if we're talking science and an odd thing to say if speaking militarily (i.e.compared to whom?) as we have achied as much as if not more than many - the falklands was a great military achievement.

And they even cut costs on our new ones by limiting them by not involving Reactors as there fuel source.

You honestly think America will side with Britain if it's not in their interests, or if Britain sides with the EU thwy will gladly accept us competing for resources?
 
Given an infinite time scale anything is possible.

Given 30/50 years of the trident lifespan upgrade, then no. We will still be bum cums with the Yankee doodles and deals like that will only help cement the relationship.
