Morning GD,

I've got a trip to Edinburgh coming up and I've roughly planned out what I would like to see/do but I haven't got any idea where to eat.

So, does anyone have any recommendations on good eateries in the Edinburgh area? My wallet will be looking to avoid any Michelin starred places ;)

Efes make the best kebabs in Edinburgh bar none. Anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar and a scoundrel, deserving of a sharp bop on the nose.

You can find them at 42 Leven St, Edinburgh, Midlothian EH3 9LJ, United Kingdom (near the Theatre, Lothian Road) or call them on 0131 229 7833.

The two nicer hotels do adequate food. It's expensive.

Thinking about it, I never in 5 years ate a really great meal in Edinburgh. There are (were?) some good Asian places in Marchmont and Morningside but I can't even recall their names.

Go to Glasgow, its a much nicer city and a far better culinary experience

Yes of course it is, especially if you want a starter of confit of headbutt, a main course of heroin needle pie and a dessert of aids souffle.
All downed with a nice glass of vintage buckfast.

Magnolia I claim liez!
Best Indian kebabs are kebab mahal at 7 Nicolson Square (EH8 9BH).
Middle eastern kebabs: Hanams 3 Johnston Terrace (EH1 2PW), this place will allow you to sit on the balcony overlooking Victoria Street and Herriots I think, it's also byob and if you didn't bring any you can go to the pub next door and get a 20% discount if you tell them you're taking the drink to Hanams. Also they do shisha pipes :D

If kebabs aren't your thing then you have McKirdy's steak house, Los Argentinos steak house, Buffalo Grill or Gordon's Italian restaurant on the Royal Mile.
Gordon's is absolutely fantastic and easily the best Italian I've had.

seriously though if your coming through to Glasgow we have some far superior eateries to that Junkie filled cesspit on the east coast with their buses on rails :)

try the grill on the corner, the Dhabba or the red onion or one of my personal preferences the butchershop bar and grill

Touché my good friend, touché.

Also I'd advise you to go to Dhabba as well if it's the one on Candleriggs as it's owned by my family :D

my compliments to your family on running a fine establishment :)

is there an ocuk discount to be had if i present myself with a loaf of hovis? :)

The sisters and Two fat ladies are 2 other places worth considering.

Or if you jsut want lots and lots of meat, there's always viva Brazil!

If you don't fancy a full on meal, could go to Oink, they have a whole roast pig every day and it slowly gets demolished as the day goes on making them into sandwiches :p

Really enjoyed it, think there's two locations :)

Che's make the best Sharma and Kebabs! (Forrest Rd)

Wing's is a culinary godsend. Hidden behind a church they have N64's to play and different chicken wings every day! :)

They have a facebook group to find them ;)
