Triple channel DDR3 in i5 set up

Can triple channel DDR3 be used in a i5 setup, which I understand is dual channel?

Yes, but you'll have a stick left over.. If you build them in odd banks, this will disable dual channel.

Yes this is what I'm saying although better put

you need multiples of 2 for dual channel
2 4 6 8 10 12 etc
for triple channel its multiple of 3
3 6 9 12 etc.

you cant do dual channel with 3 sticks and you cant do triple channel with 4 sticks.
not that any mobos have that many ram slots but you get the idea

i5 cpus can't do triple channel, single and dual only. So buying triple channel ram is just a waste of time.

yes it should do but why buy a triple channel kit if your not going to use all 3 sticks? you could have just bought a dual channel kit in the first place.

I have been given some triple channel for a build and want to keep costs down so was planning to go i5 rather than i7
