Hi

I am upgrading to an i7 and will probably be getting the Foxconn Bloodrage GTI board. Which memory do you recommend on getting? I will be overclocking if it makes any difference.

Thanks

1600MHz RAM seems to be the most popular for O/Cing, as for which brand, it really depends on how much you are looking to spend.

The Patriot Vipers are reasonably priced, and they are supposed to be really good as well.

I personally have the CAS8 Corsair Dominators, I haven't ran into any issues with these modules so far, and they are rock solid in my rig.

:(

Neither latency nor speed matter all that much on x58, though less of one and more of the other is always nice. 1600mhz is sufficient that it should never be limiting the cpu overclock.

I'd guess that 1600Mhz at Cas7 would be a sweet spot and there'd not be much difference pushing it to 1800Mhz or faster or trying to tighten the timings.

Excellent, Thanks for the replies guys.

Looks like I will get some 1600Mhz stuff then. Is their much difference between the Corsair XMS3 or the OCZ Gold, or is it worth getting something more expensive like the Corsair dominators.

Thanks

If you are going to try to overclock the memory, then the Dominators are the better choice and they cool better due to the heat sinks. If you are going to run at 1600 and have adequate case cooling, the XMS3 is fine, assuming you want to go with Corsair as opposed to your other choice.

Thanks for all your help.

Will go for the Corsairs. What ones will depend how much I spend on other components. If I have enough I will go for the dominators.

Thanks

Get 6GB, for the love of god.

Seriously, just find the cheapest 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 kit you can find on OCUK on that particular day and you will be fine . 1600MHz is a good idea, but If you find a good value 1333MHz set - just get that, you will see negligible performance difference.

Personally, I think this stuff is a good deal at the moment. However, this will likely change in a day - like it always does.

Apart from bragging rights does anything actually use 6GB as i've yet to use more than 3GB of my current 4GB with Win XP pro 64 ?

No idea about Win XP. But I know that Win 7 loves the RAM, I'm using 3.33GB right now while not doing much. While using apps and playing games this will increase, so 6GB is nice to have.

Also, if you get 3GB then you are only using 1GB sticks. So if you find you need more in future, then you need to use up all 6 slots (not exactly the memory controllers favourite thing to do) or buy a new set of higher density sticks.

Lovely motherboard, I have built 2 PCs using this. I hear there are a couple of problems with Cold booting - but all-in-all its a great board.

That said, is there anything it can do (that you think you will use) that this one can't? I have been following this thread and it seems to be an excellent board for a very low price.
