triple twisted monitors?

I was considering Qty2 1920x1200 24" monitors to give me a big workspace for browsing and working in multiple windows.

But I've just realised that if it's possible then a cheaper and possibly preferable solution would be if I could use Qty3 1280x1024 monitors but with each of them twisted to portrait mode, giving me 3072 wide by 1280 high. The vertical resolution is important and this gives an improvement over the 24" set up.

Anyone know if this is possible/how to do it?

thanks

It would all be accomplished in software. You'd need two graphics cards or one of those fancy Matrox boxes. You'd then go into the control panel and set it to rotate 90 degrees in the desired direction.

Keep in mind that some software doesn't play nicely with rotated monitors, PowerPoint being the worst offender in my experience. Despite this I am quite fond of 1024 x 1080 in office settings since most work is done in word processing software so you might as well make the screen look even more like paper.

Since my post I have found that it can be done using ultramon and pivotpro software, and maybe with less.

I have upgraded my spec to now include the 1920x1200 samsung in the middle, and a rotated 1280x1024 on each side.

Added bonus is that any problems with rotating are avoided by using the main screen. The wingers will be for web pages, pdfs etc
