Hi all i'm in spain and posting off my phone so will make this short. The gf being the daft thing that she is has left the part of her tripod that connects to the camera at home. The scenery here is amazing so no way am i going home with no decent pictures. Can you please throw some decent but not too expensive tripod names at me please? Thanks!

Manfrotto Modo 785B is a nice compact tripod, comes with head and cost around 45-50 quid. Can comfortably hold D70 +18-70mm lens.

Hope it helps :)

Are you talking about the quick release plate? If so you can buy them seperately, probably from any shop that sells tripods. :)

How much were you planning on spending?

Gitzo and Manfrotto make some of the best / most readily available tripods out there. Apart from that, ensure that it'll (and the head too) take the weight of your kit and buy a head that suits your style of photography.

The Manfrotto 190XPRO and 190XB are both good, as well as the 055XPROB, 055XDB and 055XB, which are suped-up versions of the 190Xs.

I picked one up about an hour ago. I'd been looking at them online, but happened to wander past a local photography shop which had them advertised in the window for sub-£40.

Seems OK at the moment with my S9600 on top, but obviously I've not had chance to use it in anger yet.

Hey guys,

Well I was in San Sebastian this weekend... Found 1 camera shop that had a selection of massively overpriced 'pods, and I ended up buying one- pretty crap thing TBH and cost about €49 :(

On Sunday night, we were wandering around looking for some tapas, and what do I see? A shop with the full compliment of Manfrotto tripods in the window just around the corner from where we looked last time!

What's worse is that it was so incredibly windy over the weekend that I barely even used the tripod I bought, and most of the pic I did use for it are ruined by camera shake :(

Ah well I'll stick it on the 'bay when I get back to the land of Eng and try and recoup some of my losses :(

Benbo i use a lot... good, sturdy and does what it says on the packet.. go for the tracker if you can find one with a 3 head system...
