Hi guys, just wondering, why did Intel not carry on with Tripple Channel memory with Sandy Bridge, and will it ever be implemented again?

Just curious as I thought it was supposed to be better and faster than dual channel, however x58 seems to be the only system that allows it. Is there a reason for this?

Just curious is all.

Thanks.

As far as I know, the current release of sandybridge on the 1155 / P&H67 socket/chipset is the replacement for the 1156 / P55 which was dual channel, hence we get dual channel with the new release.

Later this year we'll see socket 2011 on X68 which will be quad channel which is the replacement for the X58 1366 socket.

I think :D so damn confusing!

It'll certainly have greater memory bandwidth, not sure what tasks require large memory bandwidth, maybe rendering will benefit most from that.
