Triumph Tigers

Heard nothing but great things about the 1050 Tiger and would love one myself, but couldn't justify the ££ personally. My old next door neighbour had one and loved it to bits.

I ran a Tiger 1050 for 18 months. Best bike I've ever owned and I've owned some serious metal.
It's just a great package. Handles very well, plenty of grunt with a seat that's all day comfy. Good brakes.
Stock power is a little down on the Speed Triple which shares the same engine. All of the ponies can be set free with a remap, pipe and a simple (non destructive) air box modification.
Major negative points are the lights which are downright dangerous. Can be sorted by fitting some aux lamps. And the stock screen which can cause turbulence. Again, this can be sorted with a product from Palmer Products.

I had a 955 for a while. They are a superb all round bike but quite different to the 1050. They are more a dual sport to the 1050's road bias. Power is excellent - a fair bit quicker than the GS1200. Handling solid and predictable. Not as flickable or firm as the 1050 but still better than you'd expect. They benefit from upgraded front springs unless you're planning on actually going off-road.

Fuel economy is excellent - I got 55mpg average on a 3 day 1400 mile tour of Scotland and the comfort was excellent.

I got rid of mine because I missed the sportsbike power and handling too much, but they are a very good bike. Lots of people riding them on advrider.com

I was put off the 955i by people slating the fuel injection saying it's really lumpy around town. Maybe this is unfair?

I went for a TDM850 instead in the end.

I had a 955 Speed Triple and loved it to bits, when I bought it (low mileage 2nd hand) the mechanic at the dealers told me to expect it to have higher ownership costs than a japanese bike. When the engine had to be replaced (dropped valve) I realised what he meant and traded it in without the work being done. I may have been unlucky but it has certainly put me off owning another 955 Triumph, I would consider a 1050 if I could afford one....It's a shame because I still miss it.
