Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
Because it seems every carton i have bought over the years appear to taste the same, no matter the time of season. The amount of sweetness or citrius tang in it is identical everytime, but I love the stuff and I get about 1-2 carton a week.

Lately though, at lunch time I have been getting M&S's own freshly squeezed orange juice, done it for the past 2 weeks now, and it taste just like home made squeezed OJ. Also, I think the bottle I have now on my desk isn't as sweet as the one I had last week and more tangy (not a bad thing), which made me wondered whether Tropicana's OJ are processed of any kind done to it, whether it's flavour or anything.

I reckon it's chemically "refined" to produce the all round year, generic, American consumer style flavour.

Definitely press your own, or yes M&S's orange juice is very good.

IT will be made in huge vats from thousand of different oranges from loads of different farms, and as such will generally always taste the same, however the M&S one is probably made on a much smaller scale and so would be more affected by variations in the fruit/source.

Didn't think Tropicana was from concentrate... have a carton in the fridge, so I'll check tonight. Considering the price, I'll be pretty miffed if it is.

isnt tropicana from concentrate ? which is a bad thing?
Yes it's concentrate - they dehydrate it and freeze it to ship, then rehydrate it when it gets to it's destination.

Not sure that this applies to Tropicana actually Raymond, but it's the only way I can see them shipping the vast quantities they do.

I'd rather buy store's own freshly squeezed, Tropicana original tastes manufactured despite it's claims. However it's Sanguinello and Breakfast juices are still very good.

I think it's pasteurised as well like all those Innocent smoothies etc and that tends to impact the taste.

ah, i see :) cheers. i do prefer fresh stuff like the stuff they sell at M&S though, great tasting. stuff from concentrate is ergh, and i hate the fact they put "drink this its healthier than my alternatives!" on the bottle

I always thought that tropicana's juice are straight from the fruit...guess not then.

M&S stuff is just lovely thou, awesome juice.

Pasteurisation is the key, as this kills the taste. M@S (iirc) do both, with the pasteurised one lasting a lot longer, but also having a lot less taste.

I quite like Tropicana, but it always tastes quite artificial to me. Prefer the more expensive alternatives, if I can afford.

That explains the awsome taste of the bottle i have here, the description days

INGREDIENTS Unpasteurised Freshly Squeezed Orange (100%)

I guess Topicana is no longer my No.1 OJ. :D

/sarcasm on
freshly squeezed defrosted oranges from south africa that have been sitting in the shop for 3 weeks can't beat them :D

/sarcasm off

:p

Only way to get good OJ is to pick the things yourself.
