Official Demo (STEAM)

Official blerb:
The Cold War is in full swing and through means devious and dubious you have seized power of the Caribbean island of Tropico, where you now rule as the all powerful "El Presidente". No matter whether you turn Tropico into a vacation paradise or a modern industrial nation, you will always have to defend your actions before your people! Wander through Tropico and intimidate political opponents, hold populist speeches or just enjoy your country's own Caribbean flair. History takes its course with events such as the Cuba crisis, papal visits and other actual decisive historical events. The only question is whether or not you can play a role in that history!

Im not sure about everyone else but this really took me by surprise. Its been years since the original. I didnt even know it was in development let alone due for imminent release!

Played the demo for hours last night and its good fun. Reminds me of The Settlers 2, only set during the cold war. Best of all you get to play as Fidel Castro! :P

I'm installing the demo right now, sounds good :). Never heard of the tropico series before.

I remember spending hours on the original. Didn't know there was going to be a 3rd one until the other day on these forums. Looking forward to it (and Fifa 10 and Dragon Rising :D).

edit: downloading the demo now!

Never played the previous two but the demo of this third game impressed me very much. The gameplay is quite solid and has some depth in it, even if it is somewhat repetitive. It just feels a bit different than all the other similar games, in a good way. Atmosphere maybe? I dunno, but I like it :)

I loved Tropico

Could never do well though, even if I had great plantations, something would always screw me over.... mainly the blinking tenaments crumbling and people revolting against me.

Cool, quite liked the first two Tropico's but they seemed incredibly frustrating at times.

I'll grab the demo tonight me thinks!

Its Tropico!

Seriously its a good build on to the original, graphics obviously a lot prettier, plus there are plenty of options. Seems easier.... maybe because you can do better deals with export companies, who will privately fund buildings if you take their contracts.

Had 3 rebel battles.... but in the end I had 15 troops to my 100 people population :D... and 15 troops (spec ops) v 3 Rebels was never going to end pretty.

Its a shame the sandbox option is not open on the demo (but I can see why ;) ) - you can lose hours in this, a lot more to it than I used so ill see how this is priced before committing.

Loved the original and i really enjoyed the demo so i'll definitely be purchasing this on release day :)

Never heard of the original, but I'm loving the demo so far. It does annoy me that I can't seem to pick out the rebels for 're-education'. Has anyone managed to work out a way to do this?

Also, I keep completing the 20 year campaigns in 10 years, making the game end. Stupid demo; don't punish me for being good!

I had never heard of the previous versions until this thread. Tried the demo last night was impressed. Although I skipped the tutorial too fast and realised no matter how many farms I had, without runners the crops juact backed up :-S

Will be trying again tonight :)

One thing that I still cant work out is how you tell if you have enough teamsters (You know the guys that get all your goods and ferry them to the docks) for all the goods you are transporting. Anyone got any ideas?

I wasn't sure last night, I was getting tired. I am sure they can only do a certain amount per teamster....2-4 farms I imagine. You will soon know when the binbag appears above the farm stating full stock. Then you would reguire more teamsters :)

Going to play around more tonight, been a while since I played a game even remotely like this one....Black and White probably!

Would you describe this as Civ crossed with B&W then?

Looks interesting but the official website is hardly fact filled and informative.
