Tropico 5

I bought this on a whim, but I've not had a chance to play it yet. What disasters are there in this iteration? I understand the previous titles had tornadoes, tsunamis etc?

Much the same. Earthquakes too (not sure if they were in the last one). Oil spills if you have an oil industry.

Elections are much closer too

Not overly impressed - Lots of features from 4 have been removed. Noticing the lack of a map editor. Changing the maintenance level of buildings. Just seems like they have stripped out a load of stuff to make it easier to port it over to the consoles for this release.

Massively missed opportunity here for the devs and will alienate a lot of the PC fanbase - Especially at the pricetag they have put on it. This could put the nail in the coffin for the series unless they can do some serious development for any future version.

Also annoyed that steam cloud doesn't appear to be working for it at the moment.

it may be stripped down in areas, but its massively improved in others.

Things to love in Tropico 5

1. Farming is now so much better, you can actually see where your crops will grow
2. Money is a lot harder to come by. No longer just a case of placing Sugar Farms and Rum Distillerys
3. Swiss Bank Account now actually means something. You need to upgrade your Dynasty members stats using swiss bank money.
4. Love how each mission you carry on your island from where you left off, but in an advanced era. Thats was something I hated in the old game, it's good to move with time.
5. Love invasions. It now is vitality important to have an Army that functions an not just something that's on the map like in previous games. Now they actually serve a purpose...and tanks come on :)
6. Love managers and the ability to place different ones with different traits in certain buildings to increase whatever needs to be increased.
7. Trade routes and adding more ships to that route, very cool.
8. The music is bloody tangfastic

Im loving it I really am.

Sums up my thoughts :)

Yeah pretty much mine too, although I still think money is quite easy to come by, it just gets spent more on houses and stuff. I'm still playing the Rum Distillery's although I made a lot more from steel so I think that's the way to go now, moving into Cars when that's up and running. My 1 steel factory outprofited 2 rum distillery's easily. With the trade routes it's easy to import the Iron, Coal and Bauxite too when you run out of raw materials, though you need lots of docks for that.

I'm really enjoying this game, its very fun. Im just struggling getting my tropicans to move into homes. I have loads of space but around 100 homeless. Ive got different types of homes for rich and poor, but I can never seem to reduce the homelessness

you have to make sure you have enough work places for them and up the budget on the jobs also. When you get over £100k it matters not what you do, you ashould be making loads of money. Provide the jobs and the homeless will move in. Also, dopnt forget to place houses and parking lots/garages close to both work place and hosuing areas then they will move in.

If it is anything like the previous games then you need to make sure the homes are also near to where they need them (generally workplaces). Look to see where the shacks appear.

Pre-purchased last week, still not got round to playing as I've been away all weekend.

Tonight...I'm on a promise (to myself)
