Right,

Friend of mine is having a few issues with his computer. He recently upgraded which was fine, however since things haven't been flowing nicely, seems to be issue after issue after issue, so need some help here, as I'm out of options and can't see it first hand, he lives miles away!

Specs:

AMD Phenom II 965 BE @ Stock
Asus Sabertooth 990FX Motherboard
Sapphire 7850 2GB GPU
8GB Corsair XMS 3 RAM
60GB Corsair GT SSD
XFX 850W Modular PSU
NZXT Havoc cooler? Can't remember name off top of head. It's big.
Windows 8
Corsair 600t

The issue is, when he powers down. When it's rebooted the screen remains blank, he's recently bought a Corsair 600T case alongside the new PSU, this is when the problem has been happening.

List of issues:

  • PC Won't boot sometimes unless battery is taken out then put back in
  • Having issues with sound, but different for now

Would a BIOS update be sensible?
I've recommended running it outside the case, with bare minimum, and worked out the top 200mm fan was causing issues, but now, I'm not sure.

Advice please!

Hello

I'd clear CMOS then do a bios update.
Are there any other memory profiles he could try? Run memtest, 1 stick etc?
Did a recent build and had a similar issue. Problems with the memory profiles required a bios update and a reset.

CMOS has been cleared many times and then works.
I have suggested a BIOS Update which we shall see if it works.

1 stick, memtest has all been done and came back fine.
This is why I'm baffled besides a BIOS update, but then nothings been added to trigger the need for one.

I see that motherboard has one of those memory buttons on it. Does it flash red to indicate an issue? Tried setting memory voltage/timings etc in the bios? (I'm clutching at straws)
Don't suppose you know which bios version he's on? Looks like a lot of updates for that board
