Trouble Finding a good CRT to buy

well i was really going by what's realistic for the very near future and what i believe will make TFT's "good enough" for me to game on and not start shouting at the screen and wanting to send it back :)

i think i can live with a small amount of overall lag if it was 120hz. But like you said, we won't really know until it's in our hands, but i do have high hopes.

Yer

I guess i just feel that 120hz on a lcd is still a gimmick until i see it in practice so similar to your thoughts really.

I hope they're good but who knows yet :)

If it's proper 120Hz then OK. I can't get along with the frame interpolation processing on 100Hz LCD TV sets - looks unnatural to my eyes.

These new 120hz monitors all are talking about are true 120hz.

Just thought, we'll need something better than dual-link DVI for a 24" monitor (1920x1080 @ 120hz), as it'll fall short on bandwidth.

Before i got my 2407 i had a compaq P1220, it really is a fantastic crt. I couldn't go back to 4:3 monitor now though, widescreen is so much more immersive.

Still got an old Samsung 959NF...that could do 160Hz at 800x600 and was a damned nice monitor at the time. Part of the reason I dont use it anymore is A)I'm use to more screen space B) It got so hot and used so much power and C) It was so damned bulky.

Awesome 19" spare screen though. 1600x1200@85Hz never looked so good! Would go up the rediculously high 4:3 res like 2048x1536 @60Hz too. Looked like the absolute bomb at the time, and would still look incredibly sharp now; but I was running that screen 5+ years ago, so it shows how HD isn't a new thing.

Hell I loved the damned thing so much I actually painstakingly took the casing off and spray painted the entire monitor black. Looks pretty basic and amateur these days, but just didnt want to part with it til I moved to a decent LCD. Even now wouldn't touch an awful LCD. Widescreen is pretty nice for some things though.

ONNN the other hand I'm likely going to be using a plasma as a screen soon; so may as well be going back towards CRT tech! haha

-edit

Hahaha just found my original modding post (spray painting it black)....date: 19 Feb 2006. Crazy to think it's been almost 3 years since I was using that screen, as I say, its a bit scratched and banged, but it has been kept in the loft as a spare, as it was an awesome monitor and is still a brilliant spare. Even 4:3 looks good at high enough res. :D
