Trouble getting hold of my MAC...

Right, long story short, I'm leaving AOL.

Rang em up last Saturday morning, explained that I wanted to leave, and requested my MAC. No problem apparently. Said it'd take up to 5 days. He also said to me that I wouldn't be paying them again, and my service would run out on April 7th. MAC will be here by then, fine, sorted.

Wednesday night, 4 and a half days after, nothing arrived. I had a feeling something was wrong, so I rang them up again, apparently there was a 'technical problem'. She got on the phone to BT wholesale, and said she was going to have to hang (me) up, because she was on hold with them for up to 30 minutes, but once she got the code, she'd send it. At most, again, it'd take up to 5 days, but should be considerably less than that.

So with tomorrow night being my second fifth day of waiting, so to speak, I've still not seen anything of it.

So if it's not here by tomorrow night, should I threaten them with getting OFCOM involved? Should I just go straight to OFCOM over it? I've been waiting well over a week now to get this, and frankly, it's becoming a bit of a ****-take. I'd just like some advice on where to go from here.

Thanks

They do have to give you a MAC, when i left them over a year ago, i got my MAC code by e-mail within 20 minutes of putting the phone down, id call them again, and if they give you any guff, or try to fob you off, ask to speak to a supervisor and see if they can sort it out, then if not tell them your gona contact OFCOM, and do that if they won't play ball. :)

Surely you are not including Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday in the "waiting" days mate.
My MAC took just over a week to reach me when i left Plusnet.

Can't offer you any advice as I have never had this problem but it sounds iffy at best.

I left ZEN, got MAC code read to me over the phone instantly.
I left ADSL24 got MAC code in the control panel within minutes, so I don't get this "it might take up to 5 days" thing that AOL are fobbing you off with.

I think there is some code of practice now that isp's agree to give the MAC code without a fight, guess AOL did'nt sign up to it.

Anyway, hope you get it sorted.

There shouldn’t be any problems how ever it's over east time so times may vary.

When I left BT it was instant
When I left plus net it was instant
When I left IDNet it was instant
When I left UKFSN it was instant

Wouldn't have thought Easter would really matter in India, but hey-ho.

Will give them a bell tomorrow morning. Will tell them to keep me on hold while they get the code, and have them read it out to me, save me farting about waiting even more.

Cheers fellas :)

It's possible that the staff in India have to send a request to someone in the UK - last I looked, you need a SecureID tag to access eCo and generate a MAC key.

Code's arrived now. Took em long enough, but oh well. All sorted and registered with Be* now :)

Anyway, thanks for the help everyone!

They junked the secureIDs a while back, digital certificates now are all thats required.

That said it depends how they work, at work support can't issue a mac code, only service delivery can do that on Eco and they work very strict business hours and have a big backlog of work (so unsurprisingly issuing a MAC to some one who's leaving isn't a big priority).

That's one possible explanation, depends on how advanced/integrated their systems and procedures are...
