Im having great fun with this one!
This is not helped by there being no win7 drivers for this printer - if I remember correctly I installed it on the server in compatibility mode for XP SP2
I have a canon s830d connected via usb to my windows home server and then shared out
Im trying to get some of my win7 64bit machines to connect to this printer
I can see the printer on the network but when I click connect...
I get the win7 machines searching windows update for drivers, which they dont find and then I get the opportunity to point to a path where there are drivers.
This is where I get stuck
I have tried installing the XP drivers in XP mode with no luck
So I then went and installed the printer locally on my laptop by connecting it via usb and everything installed OK
Plugging the printer back into the server and then trying to connect to it over the network on my laptop, go through the windows update search and then try to point it to the drivers that were installed when I connected it locally and it still errors

Any helpful tips around this?

As I understood it you set the printer up for usb use.

As it set it up it also installed a usb printer port, eg. my Epson is USB001

so go to the ports tab on the printer properties page and change the port to the unc path of the shared printer eg \\server\printer

edit if the port isnt there just click add port, select local port and enter \\servername\printer (what ever they are shared as of course)
