So I just put together my new Sandybridge system and booted up. I get into UEFI BIOS just fine. However, I'm unsure as to how to install Windows 7 given that I'm using an old HDD that hasn't been formatted.

I've set the main boot device as the DVD drive the Windows 7 disc is in, but it just tries to load Vista from the HDD. How do I install Windows 7 in this situation?

My setup is:

Maximus IV Gene-Z
i5 2500k
S.Skill RipX 8Gb
GTX 570

Set the boot drive back to the hdd then restart and press f8 for the boot menu then pick the dvd drive to boot from. Then you can format ur hdd from windows setup :)

Thanks mate. Got it to boot in the end. It was just being a bit weird at first. Installing now. Fingers crossed this all goes okay. I've had miserable luck with my upgrades lately :(

Okay, I'm up and running! Just installing all the necessary Windows updates. Weird thing I just noticed though: when I click on 'My computer' and look at the HDD it says there's only 40Gb free even though I formatted it when I installed Windows 7. Anyone got a clue why that's like that?
