Trouble with a molex - Please help!

It was the one on the left.

But because it was shorting i pulled the wires and Berg out from the previous molex on the line. And its still shorting now. I've tried not drawing any power from that line, but it still shorts.

Sorry i thought It'd be the same situation whether i said molex or berg, i never knew the name of the 4pin little connections.

Sam

Quite alrite, just at first I thought you meant the 4-pin Molex was the one causing the issue. (The one attached to the dvd-drive)

I presume you don't have a spare psu just to try? That might be worth a go. (But I'd probably remove the old psu from the case to rule out any sort of shorting)

Or...If you have looooooooads of time, you can try booting the system up out of the case, but this obviously means taking the system aparet which can be a pain I know.

Can I ask, what where you originally doing when you pulled out the connector? Why where you removing it anyway? Had you replaced a component or something.

i was fitting a new ide cable... as my old wouldn't reach. and the new one still wouldnt reach so i have to just move the drives around at the front. moving the two dvd drives to the bottom, and the soundcard io to the top. unplugging the io and one wire came out of the berg. without the metal protecting head on it. just frayed wire. tried clamping and soldering back.. still shorted... strange?

thanks for helping, any suggestions? my psu i have spare is a 350w...

i have q6600, 8800gtx, 2 wd 500gig hdds, 4gig corsair dom, freezer pro, 4 fans, 2 dvd drives, one xfi pci card + io.

You can try that psu, just for safety, unplug all the power hungry items, atleast then you can see if the system is turning on.

ie just have power to the motherboard pretty much, you dont need anything else connected for a system to turn on...But actually take out the graphics card and disconnect things like the hard drives etc (Long as you remember what order they are in if you have more than one...O/S drive etc ;) )

Anything that doesn't need connecting to post, just disconnect it in all honesty, till you can get her to boot up again.

Borrowed a 500watt, tried booting the mobo gpu cpu and hdds, got nothing... not enough power... tried without gpu, all starts up fine. But trying to boot off the 700watter, get nothing.. so its def the psu shorting out. how to stop it? can i disable lines at all? or cut wires and stop them from shorting... i dont need this line at all.

Thanks,

Sam

If it's definetly only that line causing the issues, just inspect the entire thing.

Literally, from the point of the PSU to the end of the cable, see if there are any kinks or split cables anywhere, somethings obviously shorting.

If you can't find the problem, you'll probably have to shell out for a whole PSU sadly.

It could be that the hole psu has gone down for whatever reason? But I don't really know how to check that, unless you can check everything with a multimeter or something.

aww well. I've done everything... I would assume that i've blown a fuse or a rail in the psu. RMA'd.

Nevertheless, thanks boys.
