Hi Guys,

I am having a bit of trouble with my Netgear D834GT wireless router. I haven't had it that long, maybe a month or so but i seem to have to restart/reboot the router every day or so to let me have access again.

Basically I could be using my wired connection fine for an evening then i might shut down my pc and turn it on later that night. And i get the "Limited or no connectivity" symbol and text come up. And when you try and repair it just freezes for a few seconds and says that it cannot be repaired. So then i turn the pc off. Go on my macbook or ipod touch and get into the router settings that way to reboot the router, after that i can turn on the pc and all will be well until the next day or so. It seems to be pretty random.

Whether this has anything to do with it being wireless (not had a no connectivity problem on the macbook or ipod yet though). Although it is connected through a wired port on the router so i dont see how those could conflict.

To continue what i was saying before, i had to setup the router using the AOL install router software as i couldnt seem to get it to work without going through that. So i am not sure if there is a setting which i need to change or not.

Oh and when i do get the "limited or no connectivity" error i am not able to connect to the router settings in the web browser hence needing to go on to my mac/ipod. Also i appear to have the latest firmware for the router and that was my first idea.

Any help or advice is much appreciated. :)

Cheers

Bumping as it has just happened again. I have the feeling it may be assigning IP addresses wrong and as it was given my sisters laptop the same ip as my desktop pc. And that laptop used to get the message sometimes.

Will see if changing the ip address has worked.

;)

You're not on o2 by any chance ??

I've had exact no or only limited access, was wednesday evening, i shut down pc (very rare) to watch a bit of tv

Booted back up approx 1hr later and no net access

I tried as much as i knew, ended up calling o2 about 2am

Put back on while he waited on phone the o2 router

He reset etc but still nada

Called o2 again 7:30am thursday, talked me through yet again still nada

Called again 4pm thursday, got a guy stifled with a cold, wasn't really with it so i gave up

Redid vista afresh, still same

But this time i could get onto netgear logon etc, flashed back to stock (was using a tweaked firmware) and nada

Finally found a backup of tweak on a dvd, flashed and nothing

About to kill the routers through frustration, then i decided one last try before crying lmao

Nada, but after a few minutes like a miracle, damn access to google !!!

Was like being given a lease of life, i had net access woohoo

Limited on this adsl stuff knowledge as i always had cable previous, but for the life of me i still can't get my head around what the problem was, o2 could see my o2/netgear fine n dandy, i even tried a lan pci card but still nada with that

Would love to know wtf the problem was

From where i am, it seemed o2 could see down the line to me but i could not get up the line to net access

I don't use wlan so can't be just wlan

Ohh they took me off static but that didn't help, but saves me 4 quid lol

Would love to know the cause

Only thing i can suggest is get online as you can, get firmware, save one you using, flash with another and go back to original, then wait and hope a miracle happens !!

No doubt net guru's will advise technically lol

I feel your pain i really do, almost drove me mad

Not much help, but I have the same issue with the DG834G version. Which is why I bought a GT to replace it.

The wired computer (has happened to 3 different computers now) will lose connection. Router Internet still works, and wireless connections remain working, but unable to access router settings screen using wired connections.

After a minute or so it starts working again. I lived with it as browsing the internet wasn't that big an issue as could read page while waiting for connection to return.

I used to think it was a firmware bug, but it happened with a TeamDG firmware too. Not had an issue with the GT yet.

Once again not much help, but I had a very similar problem with 5 (yes 5) DG834N's I went thru, Netgear would keep replacing them and they would keep doing the same thing.

Given up with Netgear now, and trying out a WAG160n (which should arrive today).

So I never found a cure for my problem sadly!

I wonder whether it's related to the heat ?? Just felt the netgear and it does run hot

And it did happen when the room was at its hottest

Food for thought maybe

Hey up i just had the same problem

But first i better explain what i did just before it happened ............

Tried IE8 a while ago, decided to check for windose updates, was a few

Chose IE8 and a driver for my onboard nic (gigabyte x48 dq6 mobo)

Started dl

Finished n rebooted pc, windose goes through the update cycles mid way through the loading sequence

Come back in to desktop eventually

No net !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now on many many occasions i've updated/reverted nic drivers and also tried ie8 etc with no ill effects

So from previously being able to swap n change ie7/8 and nic drivers something's now causing problems

Well it's not IE8, it's the latest drivers for my realtec nic

Uninstalled the nic from devices also the "new" driver, then used my old driver which threw up the option to repair or remove nic driver, i chose remove, then reinstalled my old faithful driver

Back on net lol

Weird that things now cause net access failure that never did before what i can only summise is vista SP2

Hope this helps the op

Well thanks for your tales of frustration guys. Seems like it will be a hard problem to sort out but i think it was a IP address that was conflicting with that other laptop.

Its okay so far.

My router does seem to get very hot but it hasnt stopped working when the desktop pc is on or turned it self off or anything.

Will see how it goes.

;)

Sorry for the massive thread revival, but I have this exact same problem.

Same router, with 2 PCs on the network, 1 VOIP phone, and I use my iPhone on the wireless.

Randomly when my PC or the other PC is booted up, it gets limited or no connectivity. Last night the VOIP phone went down as well. I usually just pull the power lead out of the router, put it back in, and then all is fine again.

Did anyone resolve the issue? I am 99% sure it is down to conflicting IPs, or the PCs not being assigned IPs correctly.
