Troubleshooting no display output on new build

I've just put together a new build, but unfortunately when I boot it up I don't get any video output from the new GPU.

Relevant hardware specs:

Mobo - ROG Strix B550i Gaming
GPU - Palit RTX 3060 StormX

I've tried:
- Using my old GPU (a GTX 1060) in the new machine - this worked fine
- Using my new GPU in the old machine - this also worked fine
- HDMI and DisplayPort - no difference either way

The white LED on the motherboard indicates it thinks there's an issue with the GPU, but beyond this I'm not sure how to debug further. Any ideas?

Checked you have all the power cables in both the mother board and graphic card correctly, don't assume if you haven't, actually check them. :)

It's an ITX board, there is only one. I think the fact that the old card works fine should rule out any damage on the Mobo side.

I've re-seated it a few times, and also the exact same power cables worked with the old card (with the minor exception that the old one only uses a 6-pin connector).

I did see some mention of somebody with a similar problem that they resolved by removing/changing SATA ports, but right now at least I have no SATA devices connected so can rule that out too.

Sorry didnt realise it was an itx :p

Yeah kind of a strange one considering you have this card working elsewhere and another card working in this board.

When your in the bios with the older card can you force the PCIE lane to gen 3 maybe then switch the card to the new one?

Also unsure if your motherboard has the bifurcation option to run the pcie lane as x8x8 instead of x16

Sorry also, when the old card is in, maybe update the BIOS if you havent yet.

It's a 750W Corsair PSU, so should have plenty of power. There are 2 "6+2" connectors on the cable, though only the end one really reaches (it's a short card). In any case, in the old machine the new GPU booted up fine with just a 6-pin connected.

ITX build was a bit fiddly even in a relatively large case (Jonsplus i100), I imagine building in something smaller is a right pain!

BIOS update is a good shout, I should probably try that next.

Oh it's that weird issue with the Gigabyte I saw it last year, take out the gpu entirely, boot the system and let it run the POST cycle fully, power it down then put the gpu back in and it should boot.
 
Since its ITX, are you using a riser cable? Any time I've had this issue, it was because I was using a PCIe Gen 4 GPU with a PCIe Gen 3 riser cable and the BIOS was set to Auto. The BIOS detects that the card supports PCIe Gen 4 and tries to use that but the cable doesn't support it so you get no output. You have to get into the BIOS and change it to force it to use PCIe Gen 3.

This is also a definite possibility, you are correct both that I am using a riser cable and that the cable is only Gen3.

Trying a BIOS flash now, but I'll give this a go later when I have time to swap the cards around again.

If you are using a Gen 3 riser cable then I'm 100% certain that is the issue. I doubt a BIOS update will change anything with regards GPU compatibility but no harm I guess.

If that works, don't forget about this if you ever have to update the BIOS or the CMOS battery goes! Or you'll be scratching your head in a years+ time. Another reason to update the BIOS now I guess.
 
make sure the screw holding gpu in isnt lifting the card out a bit on the far other side of the slot a tiny bit.

try without riser if possible but if u need it make sure in bios its set to pcie3gen if its that gen as pcie4 in bios might not work.

bios update as has been suggested helped me on my old rig when using a modern card once.

once i had no boot cos of mixing ram from 2 diff sets to try get more ram so used one set and worked tho at the time i thought it was the gpu.

This was indeed the issue. Wouldn't boot at all even with the old card after the BIOS update, but a CMOS reset fixed that and I was able to change the setting. Works with the new card now.

I've ordered a Gen 4 riser cable which should avoid this in future.
