Hello friends, I am not sure what piece of hardware is at fault here on my friend's PC, so I will begin with how the problem began.
He shut down his PC last night; he turns it on today to find that it does not POST. That is to say, it does everything up to the green splash screen for his Asus m4a78lt-m, but does not actually POST, after which nothing happens.
He can access the BIOS but cannot do anything inside it, his PS/2 keyboard does not work.
What have I tried so far?
- Testing RAM sticks in different slots (including working RAM from another PC)
- Reseating the graphics card
- Cleaning Graphics Card/RAM contacts and slots
- Resetting CMOS (removing the battery and putting it back in)
And various combinations and iterations of the above.
So I thought perhaps the motherboard went dud. The PC was bought as a pre-built system nearly 3 years ago, not sure if there is still warranty on it. Would I be correct in advising him to replace the motherboard? Is there anything else I could do?
Thanks, OcUK-ites.
