So im trying to encrypt an empty 1.5tb hard drive using a file container in true crypt and it says its going to take 42 hours, this is on a AMD Fushion 1.6ghz, the hard drive is a WD green SATA2 1.5tb and it says its running at 10mb a sec :(

Is this 'creation and encryption' of a container folder CPU related? its the only thing I can think of why its taking ages, I thought it just created the file... if its CPU related ill run it on my main rig.

Seems very slow.

I can create volumes on my i5 laptop avg 146mb/s so 10GB container takes around 72 seconds to complete.

My main rig is a bit quicker too, so I would give that a try first, but it sounds like there is a driver missing or it's not set up correctly in the bios.

Just ran it again and it loads the CPU 70-90% so could be the processor slowing you down.

Thanks yeah I know encrypting data takes years but just creating a container.... I'll do it on main pc :-) thanks

it took my pc, 3 hours to encrypt a 300gb hard drive, however you can carry on doing your thing and even turn the pc off and it will just carry on from where it stopped

If you are encryting the whole drive use the whole
Drive encryption option. A 1.5tb file container seems to be asking for trouble. Im not even sure if that exceeds either the fs limitations or maybe tc limitations?
