Is it worth having a thread where you can post positive experiences of a garage you have used, its hard to find a garage you can trust I know I'm looking for a garage in the Manchester area at the moment and cant seem to find anywhere that will carry out the work I'm after which is fitting parts I supply

Might be worth updating the OP whenever someone posts a garage?

You could arange it as, All brand garages, then break down into specialists?

Votex have always helped me out with jobs i cba to do, i.e. clutch and DMF, great service and the owner is a really nice guy.

Awesome GTI fitted my cruise control, garage service was quick and cost was reasonable.

Absolutely great service from these guys, they welded the bolt pickups for the rear axle on my E36 as it had completely failed. They also got my car through the MOT with the minimum of fuss, hassle and cost. I was more than happy with the work, how long it took, their communication was second to none and they didn't do bugger all without ringing my first to make sure I was happy for them to proceed.

They are also heavily involved with the local forum and are currently offering discounts and a 'free tank of fuel' competition to previous customers.

Top blokes, very into their motorsport and all of the staff run track and competitive racecars. They also have a hillclimb MX-5 which I am due a ride in.

All in all they are the single best motoring establishment I have come across in the town and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

My family have used this garage for a few years and they have been nothing short of excellent. Reasonable labour rates at ~£65/hr with set servicing costs; always help minimise costs where possible, without cutting corners. Parts used are BMW OEM or better. They have a huge modern workshop and do a lot of work on the more modern BMW's including M cars.

They also have an open day every so often, which can be quite good. A lot of enthusiasts turn up and Woods BMW Hampshire bring a few cars down.

They do certain coding FoC too when you take it in for a service. I got them to get my wing mirrors to auto fold when locking the car. A nice touch.
 
Leigh is a independent porsche specialist, he seems to specialise in the older cars but also knows his way around the newer ones.

They're very knowledgeable about Mercs and have solved all the issues with my car hassle free, have never had to return to them for something they've not done properly.
I've been going to them for around 7-8 months and am quite happy with them.

I've heard a lot about JP and have used Awesome GTI, my mate has used them a lot, both were positive experiences

None in Manchester, all down south :(

I'll second Votex, they've been very helpful in the past with my LCR. And JPs were invaluable when transplanting an M50B25TU into my mates E36 Compact, it would still have no exhaust today if it weren't for them!

As for an "all encompassing" garage.

Autospeed in Macclesfield seem pretty decent for most things, I used them for my aircon compressor swap on the 330d, the PAS on the 330d, and a coolant leak on my LCR.

They've recently expanded their operation and taken over adjoining premises which is probably a testament to their quality of work, especially in the current economic climate.

Ive used them for years and they now work on my ST220 and have always charged a fair price, they've done the occasional minor job for nowt and offered me plenty of good free advice along the way.

For a lot of the MX5 owners here in the south east, Freelance Mazda come highly recommended on other many forums. Ive used them twice for servicing, very friendly, good rates and competitive.

My dad uses them a lot, knows the owner quite well (Steve I think his name was). Not always the cheapest but very trustworthy and honest and been used by our family quite a few times and always been satisfied. Based on the A20 at the top of Wrotham Hill (right by the big radio transmitter for those who know the area).
