The kind of local village independent garage everyone wishes they had near them - great friendly service, good prices, not desperate to max out the labour charges on the little things. Can't always get great prices for obscure stuff, but were perfectly happy to fit an airbag controller I provided to get the car through the MOT. I'm not sure if they do courtesy cars (don't think so), but they're right next to a mainline train station.
And for specialist Alfa Romeo stuff (though they also do Fiat & Lancia) -

OK, its basically 2 very friendly and knowledgable guys in a shed. But the work is good quality, the prices an absolute bargain and they're very realistic with the whole "this needs doing in 6 months" type stuff. Never had the slightest issue with any diagnosis they've given, either - so while they do bargain-priced stuff for the "usual stuff" like cambelts and wishbones (
I've had quotes for a cambelt on a Citroen Saxo that are well over what my Alfa cost to get done here) its not like its all they can do or anything.
When I bought my first Alfa I took it to a local specialist for a service and they reckoned it needed £1100 of work doing to it. So I looked a bit further afield and took it to these guys and they did most of it for under £400 and mentioned the rest (an extra £200) didn't need doing for about a year (which proved accurate, as it sailed through the first MOT and got an advisory on the second).
There are also 6 other garages I've used. None of which I would even consider recommending.
