Major sadness!

assuming they are being leased out to the press...... what happens to all the gear at the end of the Olympics ? Somebody somewhere is going to get a bargain me thinks ?????

Won't they just be part of CPS or something and just shipped off to various Canon covered events around the world? Sure they might not be concentrated as much as they are here but I'd assume most major events have press rooms full of gear, if not quite on this scale?

So, who's going to be all nerdy and tally up the cost of what they can see? :D

We'd need to know which ones are 1DXs, which ones are 1DIVs and which ones are gripped 5D3s to really be able to guess accurately and the pics are too low res to be able to tell

What I'm always amazed at seeing journalists/photographers and the photos for their news articles and such, their photos never really look that great compared to photo threads here and other forums as well as flickr. Yet they have all this gear.

Even sometimes seeing the Formula 1 photos, a lot of the photos never really look professional. Yet you see all these Nikon's and Canon's everywhere all kitted out at any big event.

I'm not saying there's some out there that don't take great photos but you never really see news sites and such whatever event it is that you could say, god I wish I could take pictures like that. It's never something that really blows you away.

Even the Olympics Opening Ceremony, the photos that were taken were quite poor compared to enthusiasts on forums. Whats that about?

Isn't a lot of that down to the fact that a lot of these photographers don't actually do any/much post processing as they're on tight deadlines and also because post processing is a little frowned upon for journalistic content?

Glossy mags etc allow a fair amount more artistic flare to be used with the touch up brush and deadlines would be a little longer after the event?

I only want one of each :p:D
