Have you ever bought a game say years ago, that you positively hated, and took back etc.
Then bought it again years later you gave it another try and found it really enjoyable?
Ive just found this with Mirrors Edge, i hated it the first time i tried to play it, bought it on impulse for a few quid yesterday and now i totally get it?

Did that with Drakes Fortune. Bought it on day one, played a few hours...meh never touched it till mid 2010. Gave it another go and stuck with it and found it amazing.

Metal Gear Solid 4. I know, I should be burned at the stake, right? I just didn't enjoy it at all when I first tried it. I then retried it a while later and absolutely loved it, to the point of staying up way too late because I couldn't put it down.

I must have just been in a weird mood first time round.

Funnily enough, Mass Effect.

Bought it on release, played the opening few parts and just didn't get on with it at all. Really disappointed and upset me, so it sat shelved for a few weeks before I thought "I bought it full price, so I'll try it again".

Another couple of hours in and it became one of my all time favourite games.

Red Dead Redemption.

Really struggled with it when I first played it at launch, I think I tried to do too much and with panthers, strangers and lots and lots of horse riding I found it tedious and at times frustrating. A mate recommended I got it again and this time only concentrate on the main missions. I did and I'm now really enjoying it.

I kind of did it with Bioshock. I bought it at release, played about a quarter of it before getting tired of it. It didn't really hook me even though I loved the previews of it.

Bought a little while back and completed it. It improved storywise considerably the more you play and I enjoyed all the way to the end.

Bioshock for me aswell, But I think it was more down to playing it on medium difficulty first time around. I found it so tedious and boring

Upped the difficulty the second time I attempted it and it was MILES better

Fallout 3. Got out of the vault, ran to Megaton and was like "WTF there's too much choice!". Left it for about 6 months then went back to it and got utterly hooked.

I think the trick with Mirror's Edge, is to play it without firing a gun (apart fro mthe unavoidable sniper bit).
The game leans strongly towards the freerunning aspect, so if you embrace that, it's a really excellent game. If you play it as an FPS though, you'll find it horribly lacking.
I luckily decided to go for the no guns trophy on my first playthrough, so I played it in the way it's intended, which is probably why I love it so much.

I was same with that game, luckily i tried it again cause i love Fallout now

Another one here for MGS4, did the first chapter then left it for a year, picked it up again the other day and it's fantastic! Hooked on GT5 and MGS4 now!

I did it with Crysis and loved it in the end.

I got GTA IV today to have another go at getting into it. Though seem to be having trouble running it smoothly though i know my lappy should be fully capable of running it medium-high settings.

Yup, Mass Effect for me also. Took three goes, each months apart, before it suddenly clicked and I couldn't stop playing.

A few times - Mass Effect 1 being the most recent example, but I've also done it on Revenge Of Shinobi (rented it the first time expecting it to be like the awesome Gamegear versions) hated it, then for some unknown reason 6 months later decided I wanted it and bought it and liked it! I'm sure there are some more, but its such a long time ago I can't remember.

I never saw the appeal of Gears of War. It just looked like an ultra generic 3rd person shooter that ticked boxes. I've only had an Xbox 360 about 6-7 months and so bought GOW1 for £3-4. I played the first level and was still unimpressed and for 2 reasons. 1, I tried it on hardcore level which was too hard for me at the time (probably ok now) and 2. that filling the holes part in wound me up. A few weeks later I went back and ended up finishing the game in about 4 sessions. I was wrong, it was really good. I now see what all the fuss is/was about. I've already got myself a sealed non-classic version of GOW2 waiting to be played.

+1 same here,
still i would have prefered it if they gave you more nudge with things to do at the begining and it not feel like your left to your own devices in a vast and somewhat bewildering landscape. Then again i suppose thats what you would feel like if you were to just be stepping out the vault for the first time.

Another one I forgot to mention is Devil May Cry 4. I had the special edition but couldn't get into it and sold it. About six months later I was in Woolworths (used to be an assistant manager there) and saw it going for fifteen quid for the standard edition. I thought that was a bargain with my discount and suddenly decided I liked it and bought it! Great game, I really enjoyed it and have since bought all the others on Ps2 so I have the whole collection!

This thread reminds me of dynablaster (bomberman) on the amiga. A magazine reviewed it at about 30% but then reviewed it again a month or 2 later at about 90% saying that they had since got hooked on the multiplayer

Mass Effect - Forced myself to finish it. Got to the part on the outside of the citadel and couldn't be bothered any more. Loaded it up a few months after and loved it so much that I played it again right after.

Borderlands - Arid Badlands was lame and seemed to go on forever and Sledge sucked as I didn't have any good against shields weapons. Left that as well for months before returning. Funnily enough I was on the last mission before continuing on to the next zone and I loved it so much when I got there. Again I finished it within a day or two and started a new playthrough right away :)
