trying again

Fallout 3. Got out of the vault, ran to Megaton and was like "WTF there's too much choice!". Left it for about 6 months then went back to it and got utterly hooked.

Same for me, except I've still to go back to it. I know I want to but the overwhelming choice makes the thought of going back to it "overwhelming" :)

Funnily enough, Mass Effect.

Bought it on release, played the opening few parts and just didn't get on with it at all. Really disappointed and upset me, so it sat shelved for a few weeks before I thought "I bought it full price, so I'll try it again".

Another couple of hours in and it became one of my all time favourite games.

same - played it when it came out and really did not get on with it - picked it up again in January and got addicted lol picked up no.2 and loved it even more! :)

Mass Effect and Fallout 3!
I don't know why but the first time I tried both these game I just didn't get into them at all.
Gave them another go and they are now 2 of my favourite game of all time.
Had the opposite happen too. Started playing Dragon Age: Origins loved every minute until for some reason I didn't play it for a while. Tried to pick it back up and was totally bored. Was probably my frame of mind or something, should really give it another bash.

A lot of votes for Mass Effect it would seem (myself included). I found the game boring when I first played it, and when I reached the Citadel for the first time was when I sold it originally. However, what changed my mind was funnily enough the Mass Effect 2 demo which I thought was awesome on so many levels. I decided to buy Mass effect 2 and wanted to get the first one again and play that first so I was up to date with the story. As it was only a tenner at the time I bought the first game and decided to give it more of a chance. Once the story got going I suddenly found the game was really enjoyable and the further I got the more awesome the game became. It suddenly made sense and now looking back I really enjoyed the game. Funnily enough due to a massive backlog (which seems to be getting bigger with each passing week!) I still haven't played the second yet. With Deus Ex, Resistance 3 and Bodycount on the horizon, not to mention a whole host of other games due out in the next few months I will have to find the time to slot it in as Mass Effect is a game that once I start playing I wont be able to stop until the end and its not exactly a short game! Still, at least they haven't shoehorned in the obligatory Multiplayer mode, that would really make the game shorter and worse. Its nice to see there are still some devs out there with sense!

I did this wiith fallout 3 played a couple of hours, wasn't enjoying it and got rid. Brought it again this year and got my teeth into it and finished, and enjoyed it.
Did this with mass effect 2 played only a couple of hours and gave up, left it for a good couple of months and was going to trade it in. Stuck it back on and got in to it more and now near the end of the game, plus I am enjoying it.

So I have decided to give a game a good few hours before my that call and not to buy too many games at once.

As many others, Mass Effect, bought it on release, got as far as the Citadel for the first time and just lost interest, can't remember now if there were other games taking up my time or I just didn't give it enough of a chance.

Two years later I pick it up for a fiver, start again and next thing I know I can't stop playing it, late to bed every night until I was finished, awesome game.

GTA3 for the PS2.

My parents bought me the console, GTA and GT3 in a bundle. I played GTA for about 30 minutes before deciding I didn't like it. then I played GT3 for about 6 months and completed it before coming back to GTA and realising it was awesome and what I'd missed.

Finally popped Fallout 3 back into the Xbox last night.
Couldnt find my save game from 2009 so started afresh. Already liking it better than first time. Expect this to keep me busy for a while.

Also, I have the GOTY edition with 2nd disk for the DLC. Should I complete the normal game first before attempting these, or are there any benefits of doing any DLC first?

You can only do Broken Steel once the main story is done, but it does add extra bits along the way, like new enemies. I think you can do the others at any point, particularly as most kinda start you afresh in somewhere new.

I've just completed mothership Zeta and Operation Anchorage and I would advise being about a level 20 at least before attempting these I've not tried point lookout or the pitt yet :(

I used to have Fallout but just couldn't get on with it. It was great until I got out of the Vault and into the wasteland where every area looked almost identical. I much prefer Oblivion where no matter where you are the scenery looks different, and there is weather. My favourite post Nuclear disaster game is Metro 2033 which is absolutely awesome.

Zeta is hard for low level players, Anchorage isn't that bad in my opinion, you can stealth through a lot of it and if you get stuck there's always the option to drop difficulties until you're prepared for a tougher experience. :)

Point Lookout has some tricky parts, I can see it being difficult for lower level players, The Pitt is probably doable on a fairly low level and you can get some sick weapons and armour from there as well.

I enjoyed Point Lookout, not as much as Broken Steel though. I absolutely loved Fallout 3 but for some reason couldn't get into Fallout New Vegas. Anyone feel the same?

Prompted by this thread I've dug out my copy of Borderlands again and am loving it. Played it on the PC initially but for some reason I had bad motion sickness.

Picked it up on the 360 for a fiver and got to about level 14 and then stopped playing. Just had a good couple of hours on it and would have continued were it not for the footy. :)

Other games on my shelf unfinished

Assasins Creed 2
Bioshock
MGS4
Drakes Fortune
New Vegas
Arkham Asylum
Mirrors Edge

All quality games so the issue obviously lies with my sticking power! :) Got some good gaming ahead I think!
