It is much, much better than 3870x2, but i never run FSX with Nvidia card of any kind, last Nvidia card i owned was horrible geforce 5800 (Dyson edition lol)
Fact is that nvidia cards from same gen as my old 3870x2 were running FSX much better.

I see big improvement in frames and image quality with 5870, 3870 was dipping frames in clouds, 5870 does not, i am very happy with it, i am able to run everything on fairly high settings given my res 1920 x 1200.

How strange is this!!! I'm really nervous about the switch to ATi, for me it's all about FSX I hope the not so FSX friendly ATi switch is worth it, we will see.

Re-install is the best way, removes the chance of any issues you could get from dodgy registry entries and left over driver files.

It'll be quicker than any troubleshooting you may end up doing.
 
Got your shiny new card yet papadan? I'm still waiting and it's estimated delivery time is between 15.51 and 16.51 but I have to leave for work at 15.30 so I won't get to play with it til 10 tonight :(

yes yesterday,but i had to go abroad at the last minute(second)thats where i am now iv,e got 5 minutes to spare.the thing is idon,t know how long i,m here for,all i want is to play FSX and try out my new toy,anyway have to go i,ll let you know how it go,s.

I would think going from a GTX 295 to a 5870 would be massive for you as a 295 is basically a dual gtx 260 192 core and as FSX only utilizes one gpu in theory you have been running it on an old GTX 260 192 core.

I may be wrong as im not a flight sim guru but sell to one of the only official Microsoft FSX system builders in the UK and until the 5 series he would only use a single GTX 285.

A GTX295 is actually 2 downclocked GTX275s.

They have 240 steam processes rather than 192.
