hi guys i have a question,

am planning to give linux a go,
i'm using sata drives, is it possible to install an ide drive and use my current system to run linux, i beleive this to be called a dual boot system ?.
what i dont want to do is lose my raid array and have to reinstall. i have got version 10.2 of the opensuse package
is this possible, sorry for the noob question lol

Yes, I have my Win XP install running from my sata drive, and Linux (currently Kubuntu 7.04) running off an old IDE drive.

I just switch the sata drive to be the first one that the Bios boots from whenever I need to use Windows, otherwise the Bios is set to boot the IDE drive and loads Linux.

thanks for confirming that :D

I too run my Linux from an IDE drive.

Since becoming almost exlusively a Linux user, I plan to change it around and let Linux be the main OS on my system. So it will get the shiney SATA HDD while XP can sod off to the IDE.

Hello,

Have you thought about using a live CD? Boot a linux distro from that, see if you like Linux, nothing on your original system is changed.

Reboot. Back to your old system.
