Trying to backup files but having problems.

Hi,

I am trying to backup some files to a 2nd hdd as my windows won't boot. So I have used Knoppix to be able to see the hdd's. Well the files I want are in the My Docs part of the windows hdd. Is there a way to get the files out and onto the backup hdd?

im not 100% sure but i think you need to have "write" permissions for NTFS partitioned drives...

i think that os is "read" only on ntfs partitons unless you install the relevant app, could be wrong though!

i read somewhere that there is now ntfs read/write (safely) option available and should be included in newer distros soon.

also try seeing if you can boot in safe mode or try the repair option on the windows disc

use barts pe builder (look on msfn forums for guide) to make a bootable copy of xp live

Tried safe mode, will have to have a look at that pe builder thanks.
