I've calculated £1850 does this sound about right?

I will have to ask for recommendations for motherboard and ram as I don't know too much about those things but I believe that I have priced it up with some head room.

I will hopefully make about £450ish back back on my old system.

hard drives ? PSU? Do you need screen keyboard etc or just the base unit 1850 seems like a rather large amount

I forgot to add PSU. I have hard drives.

I am only buying a system, I have the peripherals.

It's probably a large amount due to the fact that it is a whole new high end system.

I have calculated..

£550 for 5900x
£700 for RTX3070
£75-£80 for cooler
£130 Case

I'm not sure what I need to buy for mother board and ram and over estimated £400 all in but obviously that could be quite a bit over the top. I could go for the 3060 but would have to replace it sooner than if I bought the 3070.

PSU, Windows key, and...

Most importantly...

Glowy RGB lights!

I have hard drives.
Old spinning rust is good only for slow media storage use.

Motherboard is around £200, if wanting X570.
For B550 proper price is lower.

And AMD launches RDNA2 cards before Nvidia even launches their 3070, which probably won't be available any time soon.

MSI B550 Gaming Edge WiFi £160
32GB Crucial 3600 CL16 £140

Do you really need the 5900X? 5600X is half the CPU for half the price but will make very little difference in games. Spend the extra ~£300 on a 3080 or better monitor?

They are SSDs. I didn't list them in the first place for a reason :) I am happy to wait for all parts to be available, there is no rush :)

Thanks for the help.

Yes I do, for the better performance and longetivity, the question is do most of us need some of the things we buy? I already have a really good monitor. I don't need 3080 as I game at 1080p.

I have Windows.

Some fast ram will be worthwhile if you game at 1080p, zen 3 is rumoured to have a higher fclk so faster ram speeds at maybe 4000mhz or possibly even more.

Well, that's just substandard even for £1500 PC.
You could get 27" 2560x1440 1440Hz for £300.

That comment is wrong, 1440p at 27" is the same as 24" at 1080p the only difference is screen size so in your words "substandard" 1440p is "substandard" too. I wouldn't call a resolution at a certain screen size as substandard. I personally prefer a smaller screen for gaming.

Also what a lot of people don't understand like yourself is that there are people who prefer using a smaller monitors espcially when it's only about 2 to 3 feet away from your face on a desk. Not only that but some people like myself prefer the smaller screen as we don't have to move our eyeballs from one side of the screen to the other. I tried 27" monitor and it isn't for me, even when it's placed another foot away. I prefer a smaller and closer monitor. 24" is the sweet spot for me although mine might be 24.5" :)
