Trying to find out about some tyres...

My CTR will need new tyres soon, and a while ago I saw some budgetish performance tyres that looked (dare I say) 'promising'.

They were from a more 'budget' manufacturer, can't remember who they were, and I read that they were pitched at a similar level as R888's. Now that was probably a load of hype, but it's all I can remember about them.

I *think* they have a similar tread pattern to R888's, and I'm sure there was a thread on here about them about a year ago just prior to their release. They interested me at the time, but I forgot to note them down.

Any ideas what they were?
 
Yokohama A048?

Probably not them though, not really a great road tyre choice:p

er, Hankook RS-2?

They definitely weren't Yokos. They were from a brand that wasn't exactly synonymous with performance tyres. Not as bottom end as anything like Wanli et al from what I remember.

I *think* they might have been the Hankooks, although they sound a bit hardcore for general road use.
 
please, just get some good tyres :(

i just got 2 new conti sportcontact 3s on the front (after being on winter tyres for the last 6 months) and i'm blown away by the grip levels. (turns out i had contact 2s before, and the ESP would always cut in on heavy cornering)

obviously i'm not suggesting you get some horrifically overpriced tyres like i did, but F1s aren't really that expensive..

I will. I just want some sensibly priced good tyres, and the Hankooks look good so far for the money. Very good infact, but I've still got a bit more homework to do.
 
I made a price "compromise" with Yokohama Parada Spec 2 tyres but in 215/40/R17. The radius difference is 1% overall and the price comes down about to a more pleasing figure. They were a gamble. I still have worn RE040s on the rear and half worn spec 2s on the front and they have been great in this dry weather.

I personally find them OK in the wet, no worse than the 040s I had. Others seem to differ in opinion but I think as long as car/tyre preference, there is a driver preference. I give my car death all the time, rain or shine and I'm happy with its tyres at the moment.

Sessantas aren't available in the correct width, but plain Ultracs are, which still look like they're quite good so I'll add them to my list.
 
After looking around at reviews and gathering prices, I've arrived at the following:

-Vredestein Ultrac in 17 215 45 can be had from Mytyres @ £364.80 inc. del for 4.
-Falken FK452 in 17 215 40/45 can be had from Camskill @ £246.20/£267.40 inc. del. for 4.
-Hankook RS2 in 17 215 40 can be had from Camskill @ £325.80 inc. del. for 4. They advertise them in 45 profile, but have no stock.

Looking at reviews, the Falkens offer fantastic VFM and performance, but the Hankooks offer better performance for a bit more ££. The Vredesteins are from Mytyres, and from what I've seen their prices aren't the best and I imagine if Camskill did them they'd be cheaper. I'll keep a look out incase they get some in stock.

At the moment I'm looking at buying tyres only, and having them fitted if/when I get my alloys refurbed, so hopefully saving the fitting cost normally associated with taking them to somewhere like Hi-Q.

have you not concidered keeping bridgestone potenza s of sorts, i ve always steered away from those and go back to toyos as wet/dry grips are brilliant for my style of driving (on ek4 running 210/50/15s), however many ctr owners i ve spoken to in the past have been very pleased with its original set of tyres those that have gone for something else often go back to potenzas..
i ve been recomended re720 s for my ek and many ctr owners really rave about the 720s boasting much longer life than toyos while offering equally as good grip..
i gather you de like to keep costs as low as possible but if cost was not a factor i ve known a few itr owners who highly rate the potenza re-11, most who have tried them have rated them over r888 s..
either way potenza s are well suited for the performance fw drive cars..
