Good god what is wrong with people these days? Have care in the community started promoting GD as a baby step towards reintroducing people into society.

Not sure how it's sarcastic? If it was sarcasm, it would be more like:

I say: "Hi, are you going to be in on Monday when we come round?"

They say: "No, I'll be on the moon!"

And manners/politeness don't cost anything.

You asked for information their reply didn't directly answer your question but told you something you, presumably, already knew. I guess the person you were talking to assumed that it was obvious he/she was going going to be in.
