Are there ATi cards out there that perform nearly as well as an 8800GT but for just over £100?

Im looking to up grade my 7900GS.

Your not going to get 8800GTish performance from ATI for around £100 but the 3850 pro is around £100 and unlike the 2900 series your not going to feel like a tit for buying it :D and its not that much slower than the 3870... personally I'd say you were better off going for the 8800GT tho :P while overall the 3850/3870 are only moderatly slower than the 8800GT, in some cases the 8800GT is closing on twice the performance of the 3850.

You can either get a 3850 for something above 100 pounds. I would recommend the 512MB 3850 edition though which will help in higher resolutions.

Aren't the 512MB 3850s pretty much the same price as a 3870? You can get a 3870 for around £125 if you have a look around, and they can hold their own pretty well against the 8800GT when overclocked.

I only ever game at 1280 x 1024.

What is the reason for this? What is your motivation here? :)

I cant justfy paying much over £100 for a card. GT are comming in at £180 and arnt likley to go down by more than a tenner when the next series come in.

Yup ok that makes perfect sense, normally I would suggest a 256MB HD3850 as they seem to cost about £100 or slightly less but that deal that overclockers are doing seems to be a bit of a no-brainer, I think the xtra £11 is worth it for an upgrade from 256Mb to 512MB, well worth it.

Would be good to get some user feedback from someone who has bought one, see some pics and stuff like that, still don't know what brand they actually are?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the extre memory can be helpful even at 1280x1024 if you have *lashings* of AA and AF?

I have a 2900XT I do not feel like a a tit for buying it, it was on sale for £152 at the time of purchase (about 5months ago) and I think it's the best purchase in about 2 years for performance gain with it
