Trying to overclock an Intel E5200

I have got a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 motherboard and have just purchased an Intel E5200 CPU thinking I would be able to overclock it.

In the past I have successfully overclocked my Intel Q6600 to around 3.6GHz without any issues, however I am really stuggling with this one.

I can't even overclock it from 2.5GHz to 2.6GHz. The computer just tries to boot, restarts and resets the CPU to its original settings.

Can anyone suggest some settings they have working on this board so I may be able to get it working?

Thanks

I have been playing around with this, trying to get it working, but not having much luck. When I try to overclock the CPU, I am setting the Ram Multiplier to 2 (but have tried several other settings too) and the FSB speed to 240.

The computer boots to the bios, gets as far as the memory test, then reboots and resets all the settings associated with the overclock. I initially thought this was a Ram issue, but I have tried different modules and still getting the same problem. I am using OCZ Reaper 2 x 2GB 6400 DDR2 Ram.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

It's not other peoples working settings you need.

I suggest underclocking it, see if you can get it to run stably at lower voltages than stock, and at lower speeds than stock.

If you can, then how does it cope with increased fsb at decreased multiplier
And can it do one or two fsb higher than normal on the stock multiplier?

Ok, here's what I have tried.

10.5 x multiplier @ 200MHz (2.1GHz) Worked Perfectly
11.5 x multiplier @ 200MHz (2.3GHz) Worked Perfectly
12.5 x multiplier @ 200MHz (2.5GHz) Worked Perfectly - Stock settings
10.5 x multiplier @ 230MHz (2.41GHz) Didn't Work
10.5 x multiplier @ 240MHz (2.52GHz) Didn't Work
12.5 x multiplier @ 201MHz (2.51GHz) Didn't Work

I then tried underclocking it:
12.5 x multiplier @ 100MHz (1.25GHz) Didn't Work
12.5 x multiplier @ 199MHz (2.48GHz) Didn't Work

So adjusting the FSB by even 1MHz either way and it won't work. Any help would be appreciated

Is your bios on that motherboard up to date ? also set your pcie to 101 and then try to oc, did you try to increase any of the voltages ? are you changing any of the ram dividers ? if so leave at stock divider and loosen all the memory timmings then increase fsb.
