Note: old spec. new spec further down...

Hi guys I got a few questions.

Before I start, the computer is going to be used for;

  • Auto Cad
  • Photoshop
  • Downloading (movies & music)
  • Playing media (downloaded: HD Movies, Movies, TV shows & Music)
  • Internet surfing
  • Multi-tasking most of the time

Not sure on the mobo, just chose a random one, but would like to stick to gigabyte as in the other thread people prefer it over Asus.

Also not sure on the Energy Efficient CPU?

Hows the PSU? 520W Ok?

Im trying to build a fairly quiet setup. I want to get it as quiet as possible really. I know the raptor is quiet loud, but its fast so I'll let that one slide. xD

Monitor
, I will most likely be going for the HAZRO 24" for main screen, after the Vista issues have been sorted out by HAZRO.
And use my Samsung 23" HDTV as second screen (dual screen)

I'm looking to start this build in june/july

Cheers Guys!

Oh right, but would I need the latest spec graphics card though? plus they will cost a lot more than the one I have spec'd, right?

Well. I have a Panasonic 5.1 cinema system already...
What sound card would you recommend, as I was thinking of using the standard onboard sound....

Cheers for that excellent info guys. much appreciated.

Ok so I will bin the Raptor. Get only the new Samsung F1's
wait for the P45 chipset board
wait for new gfx cards to come out and see prices

I think I'm going to leave the soundcard out for now, see how the standard sound goes for me...

What case do you have morguk?

Mr bon it may be worth looking at the Abit ip35 if you want to build the system now, its the P35 board that is most often recommended and with good reason. Otherwise just wait for the P45 boards. Also, if you want a keyboard go for the one you suggested, the Aurora brushed aluminium, I just got one with my new build and I love it, best keyboard I have owned.

Yeah, I am going to wait for the new tech and see what prices are like.

Actually, theres a huge downside on that keyboard. No Media buttons :(
Might go for something else now.
...Just to confirm, this is a wireless keyboard right?
EDIT: No its not wireless, this keyboard is a no no for me now :/

EDIT 2: If I get the diNova, then I wouldn't need a media remote huh? all in one on the keyboard.

The diNovo Edge looks good, but then theres no number keypad. :(

Doh!

But Logitech make some USB based remotes :)

EDIT: Thermalright Ultra-120 fan not included & you'll need that ;)

Would I really need a fan if I don't really intend to overclock at first? and if I do later on, it will be very mild overclocking.
Well I suppose a fan is better than no fan...right?

Just wondered which of the Abit IP35 boards you'd recommend? Is it just a case of e-SATA & micro-GURU for the IP35 pro ?

I think he meant this one Abit IP35 Pro

With the Quad-Core you can not get away with no fan, well at least not for very long. But with that beefy cooler you can use a low spinning (= virtually silent) one. Make sure you get something with 4-pins A.K.A. PWM :)

Just a thought, is that the same with the Tuniq Tower? Because everytime I see this heatsink. No one uses a fan...

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, that black thing sticking out the bottom of the heatsink is a fan? lol
Why have I not noticed it before?

EDIT: The Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler features a unique 9 blade fan in the centre of cooler which offers better performance than a regular 7 blade fan mounted on the outer of the heatsink.

HA.

Ok, my current spec as it stands until that new card comes out......

I have gone for the Scythe Zipang Cooler for its very good cooling to noise ratio.

Mhmmm, yes, about the motherboards, I was just thinking of downgrading from Asus P5k Premium, to something that costs a little less... something like the Asus P5kc Combo @ £70ish
As I dont need all those features.

As for the new P45, there aren't any reviews yet. So I dunno, plus do I need such a new MoBo? Im sure a P35 would do me fine, while keeping costs down aswell as knowing its got many good reviews, plus if I get any problems during the build then theres a bunch of info and folks who actually have knowledge of the P35 MoBo's
But I suppose a plus side on the new P45 is the energy efficiency they have considered on these boards. I'm all in for energy efficiency...:)

P35 would do you fine, it's just that you're forking out £111 for one and in that price range there's plenty of P45 ones. There is a review of an Asus P45 somewhere and it's very positive, but like I said P35 would do you just fine (MSI P35 Neo2-FR, Abit IP35, the Asus you mentioned etc) and would cost you around £70ish.

I'll look into the new Asus P45 reviews... and see whats good.

If you have a legit copy of xp, look at the vista home preimum upgrade,. It's pretty much the same price as the oem, although I can't say where from. But has all the benefits of retail.

My bro has XP Pro, but he thinks it 32 bit, he says.....I would need 64bit for my 4bg ram, right? Yeah.
Anyway, so are you saying that I can get the Retail (£140) version for the same price as OEM? (£70)
