Trying to spec my 1st build.

I think I'm going to leave the soundcard out for now, see how the standard sound goes for me...

What case do you have morguk?

Silly to **** off expensive cases until you have actually owned one, the difference between cheapy cases and the Silverstones and Lian-li's is enormous. Well worth the extra imo. I went from an NZXT case to a Lian-li V2100+ and there is no way i'd go back now. Mr bon it may be worth looking at the Abit ip35 if you want to build the system now, its the P35 board that is most often recommended and with good reason. Otherwise just wait for the P45 boards. Also, if you want a keyboard go for the one you suggested, the Aurora brushed aluminium, I just got one with my new build and I love it, best keyboard I have owned.

Other than that the build looks really good.

Just wondered which of the Abit IP35 boards you'd recommend? Is it just a case of e-SATA & micro-GURU for the IP35 pro ?

Yeah, I am going to wait for the new tech and see what prices are like.

Actually, theres a huge downside on that keyboard. No Media buttons :(
Might go for something else now.
...Just to confirm, this is a wireless keyboard right?
EDIT: No its not wireless, this keyboard is a no no for me now :/

EDIT 2: If I get the diNova, then I wouldn't need a media remote huh? all in one on the keyboard.

The diNovo Edge looks good, but then theres no number keypad. :(

Doh!

But Logitech make some USB based remotes :)

EDIT: Thermalright Ultra-120 fan not included & you'll need that ;)

Would I really need a fan if I don't really intend to overclock at first? and if I do later on, it will be very mild overclocking.
Well I suppose a fan is better than no fan...right?

I think he meant this one Abit IP35 Pro

With the Quad-Core you can not get away with no fan, well at least not for very long. But with that beefy cooler you can use a low spinning (= virtually silent) one. Make sure you get something with 4-pins A.K.A. PWM :)

Just a thought, is that the same with the Tuniq Tower? Because everytime I see this heatsink. No one uses a fan...

Cheers for that excellent info guys. much appreciated.

Ok so I will bin the Raptor. Get only the new Samsung F1's
wait for the P45 chipset board
wait for new gfx cards to come out and see prices

The original one you selected would be a good choice in terms of an upgrade pass. You would need a suitable crossfire board however. One of the high end Asus boards. I have both a raptor and F1 and i would have it any other way. The raptors seek times own the F1 so it feels more snapier as an OS only drive. The F1 however with it's superior read speeds or good for games etc. You could just buy a VeloRaptor and get the best of both worlds?

I would buy an Evga 8800 GT and use there 90 Day Step-up/upgrade programme when next gen cards come out next month

+1 *hugs GT*. Although not sure with regards to the 24" monitor you are buying. The GT will struggle at high res.

Omg why do people spend so much on a case? I would get a cheaper card and put in a sound card.

People speed allot because of the cooling benefits / aesthetics.

You could get the antec 1200 as the price is pretty resonable and the air cooling will be unrivalled for that price.

My 2c.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, that black thing sticking out the bottom of the heatsink is a fan? lol
Why have I not noticed it before?

EDIT: The Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler features a unique 9 blade fan in the centre of cooler which offers better performance than a regular 7 blade fan mounted on the outer of the heatsink.

HA.

Ok, my current spec as it stands until that new card comes out......

I have gone for the Scythe Zipang Cooler for its very good cooling to noise ratio.

Thought of P45 motherboards? Not much difference in price with the one you picked and early reviews look positive.

Mhmmm, yes, about the motherboards, I was just thinking of downgrading from Asus P5k Premium, to something that costs a little less... something like the Asus P5kc Combo @ £70ish
As I dont need all those features.

As for the new P45, there aren't any reviews yet. So I dunno, plus do I need such a new MoBo? Im sure a P35 would do me fine, while keeping costs down aswell as knowing its got many good reviews, plus if I get any problems during the build then theres a bunch of info and folks who actually have knowledge of the P35 MoBo's
But I suppose a plus side on the new P45 is the energy efficiency they have considered on these boards. I'm all in for energy efficiency...:)
