Hi all,

This is my problem,
for the last few days i have been having extremely weird hangs, under what i would call light use of the pc. Opening browsers / steam , streaming something on youtube. All these things can cause the pc to hang for 10 - 15 seconds.
the mouse and keyboard responds however the windows and desktop are non responsive.

Originally i had thought my issue to be memory related
so i had posted a thread in the memory forum
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18095944

Anyways after eliminating the memory as a potential root cause, i thought i would switch to my old 4770 (from 5970)
and from what i can tell the system appears to be stable.

I should also add that my pc seems to crash when playing some games
COD MW2 and Unreal 3 being some of them
Mass effect seems to be unaffected.

i havent overclocked the 5970, well i tried but i couldnt get the xfxovervolt tool to work and i didnt know any other way, so i set the catalyst settings back to normal.

Any idea what may be going on here ?

:::EDIT:::
Something i forgot to add
I have also tried formatting the pc and doing a fresh install, this has made no difference
And i have put a 5970 waterblock on.
The install of the block was simple, and no stress on the graphics card board during install into pcie slot.

I had a similar problem, and it turned out for me to be a faulty sata cable. Swapped it over and no problem since. I had the page file set to another drive from the OS drive. The drive with the page file was not operating correctly.

At least you know now that your new card is fine, it's just troubleshooting now that's going to be a pain. Good luck finding out what's causing the problems mate.
