Sorry for starting a new thread, but couldn't find a suitable one to resurrect.

I'm just downloading the 10 day free trial to give a bash. The last MMORPG I played was FFXI about 3 years ago, but that was just ridiculously hard to find a group if you didn't play it 24/7.

Anywhoo, any tips, pointers and general guidance on what and where to play? as I know there are quite a few players on here.

Thanks for reading. :)

Maybe start off as a druid. It's a hybrid class so although it's not the 'best' at any one thing (healing, tanking, doing damage) it would allow you to get a feel for the different aspects of group play.

Playing any class can be a little boring til level 20, especially druids but it really takes off from there.

If you want a class that is fun to play and fast to level I suggest you don't go near a druid at the start.

I'd go for a hunter as once you get to level 10 you can get your first pet and levelling becomes so easy.

If that doesn't sound your thing then maybe a warlock, a caster with a pet who relies on damage over time spells.

I'd suggest you take 2 gathering professions as soon as you can. I'd go for skinning and mining as on the auction house these materials can sell for stupid amounts at the minute.

I'd give every class a go - you can create up to 8 or 9 characters per server, so you can try everything. It really does depend on what sort of playstyle you want - melee or ranged, someone who can heal as well, or just a damage machine. Try them all out for a few levels before you settle on one.

WoW's a very easy to pickup game, there's nothing that goes over your head as the complexity of your character scales as you level. If you do get stuck, ask in here - I'm sure someone can help!

Do you have any mates that play? If so, join their server. While it's frustrating to be low level while they're swanning about at level 70, they will be able to help you out if you get stuck and perhaps even give you cash/gear/boosts through instances.

I'd also bookmark thottbott, wowhead and curse gaming - massive resources for WoW players. WoWinsider also has great class based sections, well worth reading once you settle on your main character.

All of the above is excellent advice.

Try lots of classes for a little while before settling on one or two you like (alts are healthy to have when you are bored with your main.)

Definitely hook up with RL mates that play if you have any in game, friends make a big difference to your game experience.

Anyway GLHF!

Problem with the trial is you can only get to level 20, so a druid would probably be really boring.

The best thing to do really is to try each class up to at least 10, as any higher for a new player will take a long time. I wouldn't recommend trying to make a tank or a healer as your first character, because they're slower than dps classes at leveling so it can get pretty boring if you don't know the quests/areas.

I'd probably try a paladin, mage, rogue and hunter if you only want to go for a few classes. That will give you an idea of what it's like to play a healer, caster, melee and a pet class.

Hunter is the most new-player friendly class in the early game in my honest opinion. Level ten upwards and your pet will take all your damage. You'll learn about aggro, kiting, nuking and crowd control all from the one class, and it's pretty easy to do.

I would say a warrior is the easiest class to start off with tbh! Just stick it out and once you get to lvl 18 start grouping for WC, thats where it starts to get fun :D

I'd just like to say, dont be put off by ANY class before lvl 40, it's all pretty much the same till lvl 40, it's when classes become fun.

I have a friend who literally tried every class till lvl 10 getting bored of them by then, such a waste of time.

If its any help I got away with running it on an old laptop with a 32MB ATI Mobility 9000.

I have finally quit wow though. 3x Level 70s (+2 more if you count my old account before I sold it), three years later, I've had enough :p
