TSI Engines

I've gone for the FR with a DSG box as an auto was a must for my commute.

The interior is definitely not as refined as the Accord, but then they are a different class of car. The seats are comfy enough though and it has the usual toys.

Biggest bug-bare for me is the lack of an arm rest :D

If a new Leon FR, should that be a 1.8 rather than a 2.0?
 
Acemastr, except if this car breaks outside of service you pay for it, a brand new car is under warranty.

I am in two minds about my next car. I really want a 535i Msport, which I would get on lease, BUT there are some other cars I quite fancy owning (B7 RS4 for one) which I cannot lease.

Head vs heart I guess...
 
I just got a dealer registered Skod Roomster 1.2 TSI 7spd DSG and its a fabulous thing. I was worried that the engine would be a bit lacking, but its peppy and goes nicely on the highway. Roomster vs. Fabia because it needs to fit kids and dogs and my 7 foot tall frame (which it does with oodles of headroom and legroom).

Very economical and cheap to insure/tax etc. Really pleased with it.

I was very impressed with the Roomster when I had one as a courtesy car for a couple of days. It's no looker but practicality vs cost they are hard to beat IMO.
 
It says something that you went from a 6 cylinder 3.0 engine to a 4 cylinder 1.2 and you don't find it annoying

I've read a lot about people on various sites going from 1.9 and 2.0 TDI's to 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines and saying they are very happy with the change one was on here recently

I was looking at 1.2 TSI's last night and I am severely tempted to drive one out of curiosity, the Fabia 1.2 TSI Monte Carlo Special Edition is within budget and I prefer its interior to the Ibiza's but its got rear drums and even though its not a quick car there is something about drums that puts me off where as the Ibiza has rear discs

That seems a rather odd thing to get hung up about? Drums brake very well they just don't dissipate the heat anywhere near as well as discs so for single stops they're completely fine, if you want to do a track day then maybe it'll become an issue but otherwise they'd be grand. Also you usually get the benefit from a handbrake that works a lot better on drums.

I've been driving 1.9 TDi (PD) and 2.0 CDTi (current CR car) for the last ten years, and recently drove a 1.4TSi a couple of times. My current car (Astra CDTi) has 165ps and 350nm torque, whereas the new 1.4TSi Octavia is 140ps and 250nm.

The difference is night and day, and I ordered a 1.4TSi Octavia without hesitation. It has the exact same torque as the Skoda/VAG diesel 1.6 unit, and despite less hp on paper it is WAY more responsive and pulls like a barge thanks to the turbo. Unlike the breathless diesels, the TSi has life right across the rev range and up to the redline (peak torque between 1,500rpm - 3,500 versus only 1,750 - 2,500rpm in the diesel).

The petrol feels way feistier, livelier and is every bit an 'all that and more' replacement for the diesel unit. You sacrifice 10mpg on paper but in real life it's apparently not that much different. I got 49.9mpg (and climbing) on my test drive so it's not a bad all rounder really.

Its a very odd thing to get hung about you're absolutely right, I also hate the green Skoda badges and much prefer the newer black ones so much so that I don't think I could own one just because of the badges which is mental, I do have issues.

The badges aren't hard to swap over. People do it all the time.
 
But really, if the badge matters that much then just get an Audi, VW or Seat - not like Skoda are the only people doing a small car with a TSI engine right?
