Yes I understand that. It was a general point that whilst we may have good reason to bring manufacturing onshore the cost will go up. This will make us feel poorer unless wages rise inline with prices. It won't just be chips rising in price.Chip manufacture is not a significant part of the economy its not going to add to inflation in general the reason they'll be 30% more expensive is because wages etc are higher in the West in general its why we import so much crap from China and the far east in general we can't manufacture it for the same prices. Moving production to the US is a political move not an economic one Washington does not want all of the West's chip manufacture being in the hands of the CCP

Yes it's not a cheap meal going to the chippy any more. If the higher food prices keep up it will be interesting to see if it affects waistlines We cook a lot from scratch and don't buy a lot of branded items so that's kept it under control.Chips made at my local chippy went up by 35% so i just tank it move on in life.
I suspect more people will stick with older hardware for longer and not upgrade each year or 2 if prices are high. Will hit manufacturers eventually
Chips will cost more...if there's even enough people to help make them
Chip fabs are coming to the U.S., but will there be enough skilled workers?
Intel, TSMC, Samsung and other global companies are all planning chip fabs in the U.S. in coming years. | New report estimates need for up to 90,000 jobs to serve up to 20 domestic fabswww.fierceelectronics.com
Countries/Companies, should have started doing this 30+ years ago !It's seen multiple reports saying US Universities are currently trying to get students into semi conductor studies so there will be enough workers for these jobs
