Tumble Dryers: how do you survive without one?

We have quite an expensive Miele washer-dryer and my wife still insists on hanging stuff out on a clothes horse.....

The problem with radiator/clothes horse drying is that it leaves everything really crusty and hard. It also means you have to have windows open for ventilation due to all the water evaporating from the wet items. Having the heating on, and windows open, in the middle of winter just isn't fun.

Gotta agree with this, i am really bad for having my stuff dried in the tumble dryer mind.

I will not let my wife dry my clothes on the radiators or on the washing line because they dont feel right when i wear them....i know im a wierdo.

I do also appreciate that a dryer costs a fortune to run, seeing the little electric meter disk spin at 3000rpm when its turned on is kinda depressing, but we also couldnt survive without one (we could survive i just wouldnt want to) due to the kids clothes etc.

I've not used a tumble dryer since buying my own place 4 years ago. Clothes on a rack in the spare room, door shut, window open, job done.

No crusty clothes and they dry within a few hours usually.

Clothes don't feel right after they dried naturally on a washing line ?, what is it that doesn't feel right about them ?, I thought I was fussy, do they scratch your soft skin :p

Yeah, thats it precisely...the nasty scratchy clothes irritate my sensitive skin :)

No really, the clothes just feel better after they have been dried in the dryer is all.

Clothes Horse is the winner!

We have cut down over £200 a year in electric using one . Sit the clothes on it near the radiator, wake up in the morning and its dry. :)

We do still have the tumble dryer but its very rarely used for drying stuff needed to go out with the same evening.

This, but in trendy silver of course.

Its all about the clothes horses/washing line. My clothes always dry fairly quickly, its a lot cheaper, I also prefer how they feel when dried naturally instead of with a tumble dryer and if I hang things up straight to dry they don't need ironing! :)

This is what we use, it works fine. Then again, for sheets and all that.. A flat might be a problem as there is a lack of space. We have plenty of space to hang sheets on bannisters and all that. In a flat you probably wont, unless you have a communal garden in which there is a washing line you can use.
