Tuning Boxes

Me too but he claims it does work - So sod it! I can even test it against another standard Octy 1.9TDi so we'll see if its actually works!

Of course he says it works...doesn't want to let on he blew £25 on a useless bit of plastic like a numpty, does he?

He told me about it ;)

I really don't think I'll see a differnce but he says the car is quicker and reading the 1000s of replies in ebay most of them seem to think so as well!

So why not :D

If you do notice any difference, I might give it a whirl too.

I'm skeptical though, make sure your testing is thorough :p

I've got a DTUK ECO2 tuning box for my Mondeo TDCi. Supposedly gives 35-40bhp and 70Nm increase. Definitely noticeable, off-boost power has dramatically increased! The torque now starts at about 1600rpm rather than 2000, and the car is much more willing in any gear. Fuel economy has more or less stayed the same, possibly 1-2mpg better like-for-like, certainly not more than that.

Good ones only change the fueling after the engine has been on for a few minutes, so it gives the car time to warm up before stressing it. There is no noticeable increase in soot production on acceleration.

I would recommend a tuning box to anyone, but I'd be very dubious with an el-cheapo. Mine was £220.

I have not had the claimed gains verified by a RR, but using a stopwatch, have the following in gear times:

2nd gear 20-40mph 4.0s -> 3.4s
3rd gear 30-50mph 5.5s -> 4.2s
4th gear 40-60mph 5.4s -> 4.3s
6th gear 50-70mph 11.8s -> 9.7s

Only rough measurements, but you get the idea...
