I've just fitted my new tuniq tower with a q6600, and I'm currently at 3.33ghz with 1.425 volts (1.375 in windows, jesus thats a lot of vdrop). My temps under load are around 75.

What I was wondering was would I get better temperatures if I replaced the fan? I've currently got the blue LED tuniq one (the only one out of the two I could get my hands on :P) and I was thinking either an S Flex 1600 (same as my case fans) or a Yate Loon.

You sure it's seated properly and that the thermal paste in covering the whole heatspreader?

Those temps look mighty high for that amount of Vcore and one of the best air coolers on the market....

I'm waiting on some AS5 to come through, once that does I'll re seat it. The one thing that comes to mind is when screwing it down how tight should it be done? I didn't want to risk cracking the mobo due to pressure when I was fitting it

I have just remember that when I used it on dfi bloodiron board I screwed it till it stopped, that board was a 4 layer pcb.

My current motherboard is 10 layers and I stop when the thread disappears. So it depends on how many layers the boards pcb has.

I run my Tuniq Tower with a yate and it only works a little better than the stock fan but it is quieter.

That can't be right, my Katana 2 with a Noctua gave me 10ºC improvements over stock cooling at load, and my XP-120 with same Noctua gives me 8ºC improvement.

Your temps are too high, even for a quad. I suggest you remove your tuniq, re-apply the thermal paste and make absolutely sure the Tuniq is seated correctly ... then

Tighten the brass nuts diagonally fingertight, then hold the tuniq at the top and twist, if it moves it's not tight enough, re-tighten diagonally until it does not twist and your done.
Changing the stock fan in the tuniq is a false economy, a different fan may offer quieter operation at full speed, but will do little to lower your temps. Just look at what it has to
push through the monster Tuniq Tower and you get the idea.

from what you say your Tuniq is not fitted correctly you should be looking at 68C max under ORTHOS.

Fitted a Tuniq tower yesterday on my Q6600 and replaced the fan with a Yate also. Am at 2.9ghz at moment with 1.45v and idle temp is average 38 with load being about 48.

something wrong there mate
I'm using exactly the same heatsink with the blue leds on the same chip at 3.4 gig with 1.48 volts into it and using the compound that came with the cooler the temp has been around 58 degrees never went over 60 on full load for days ( even through the sorta sunny days we've had recently )
so dont think the fan is your problem
