Tunit V-CR for 330D

Don't these things just turn up the fuelling by tricking the ECU into thinking the engine is colder than it really is?

Personally i'd stay away, a mate destroyed his fuel pump using one of these tuning boxes

Cheers Elliot

Not shy for a trek around the country, my only concern is it being a pain with the BMW warranty i purchased for the car ... Although i have my doubts if I’m ever going to bother sending it back to BMW again anyway after the last time.

They won't know anyway (unless they specifically byte analyse the map against a known "BMW" one), the E46 predates the CRC checks implemented on recent ECUs.

Assuming the car is still running all they need to log is air flow/boost/fueling to tell it has been remapped. VAG also have the ability to compare the ECU to a factory one I would be surprised if BMW don't have something similair.

Is yours an Auto?

If so the GM boxes don't like remaps at all.

In not so long you will have a slipping torque converter with the material going through you box bringing it to a nice end.

What did BMW do? :(

My car has an odd intermittent issue where the engine cuts out when slowing down ... Its more annoying than anything as it does not happen very often. I booked it into BMW to be looked at and they just made me feel very uncomfortable saying if there was no fault found they would charge me an investigation fee which was around £120. They could not find an issue (computer said no) and they said bring it in if it happens again (however the next time they will charge me) so now I’m not really that keen on dropping it in as they probably won’t be able to find the issue ....

They were just incredibly insistent on A. If no fault found there would be a charge B. saying it could quite possibly not be covered under warranty ... When i had my Clio trophy and that was under manufactures warranty it was great, you took it in and they would just fix it no questions asked. BMW just made me feel incredibly uncomfortable which isnt what you expect when you spend £650 on a years warranty.

Well you tell them to do their investigation, pay them their 120, and explain how it cut out on the roundabout and you felt extremely endangered as the car is not safe to drive.

If they can't find anything demand to see the manager.

The service manager will ask to have the car for some days to drive around in it to see if the fault happens.

If they don't do anything demand a PUMA case to be opened if this isn't done by now. This will bring in BMW HQ and your local service guy to come to your dealership and take a look at the car, live readings will be pulled off and uploaded to BMW HQ.

They will then sift through known bulletins/past similar cases and initialize a sequence of repairs which will have to be done under warranty to try and fix the fault.

If they still cant find anything wrong then sell the car.

Double check your engine mounts aswell.

Also it could be sensor that is off and needs its adaptions reset. I had a intermittent power loss issue that was fixed like this.

Anyone know any other good reasons why these boxes are bad ?

A few diesel head mates of mine all have them on their cars. and it has changed them a lot but I always said to them they cant be good for the engines too.

Most remaps take the torque levels above what the GM box can handle thus eventually shredding the torque converter to bits.

The TC as it is are very weak on these boxes from the factory, the remap just makes it worse.

You are thinking of the eBay "Power Resistor of Justice" ;)

These diesel tuning boxes usually intercept the fuel rail pressure signal, effectively reporting a lower pressure so the ECU cranks the fuel pressure up and you get more fuel injected. They do actually make a noticeable difference, but it's a very crude way of doing things.
